X-Ray camera, see through things... or a bit of a gimmick?

Read through envelopes as if the envelopes were made of glass - really? For $300?




Seems they have a website, upon which the model of camera used to take the above photos is not the camera being advertised on their site for $300. Heres the link which advertises a £200 ($300) camera that supposedly has x-ray ability.

Apologies if this has been done before. The PH search feature is down, as usual.

Looks like a fun gadget/toy, especially for the price, but I have my doubts it would work as well as advertised.

The clue is 'IR'. It might detect in infra-red (see the reference to night vision) but to 'see through' things (if the subject is not emitting X-Rays naturally) it would need to emit X-Rays and have the sensor behind the object.

I did suspect that the gadget worked as well as they claim, everyone would have one, like an ipod etc

I think that if you have to be trained and licensed to use it, and it comes with a sheaf of warnings along health and safety lines, it might do something with X-rays..........

Being on of the folks actually allowed to use real x-ray stuff I can tell you that it would need to have film or a sensor behind the envelope, you still wouldn't be able to read things unless the ink was very dense indeed and that it would be hugely more expensive. Oh and it would be really bad for your health.

Apart from those points it looks just fine.
