Long story short, I somehow managed to overfill my 306 1.9td with about a litre of engine oil, please don't ask me how, sheer numptiness I reckon.

Anyway, this resulted in a blown turbo and the engine running off of its own oil on lane 3 of the M4.

Now my question is, what are the chances that the engine is knackered? The revs rose for approximately 20-30 seconds at most and a fair amount of oil entered the intercooler etc. Would replacing the turbo and draining the oil be likely to fix the car or will I be pissing into the wind?

Cheers,

Mike

By the time you spend x amount of money replacing the turbo and finding out if its cured the problem or not. You might as well just go get a second hand engine from the scrappy or ebay for around £150 and swap them over.

you'll need to flush the intercooler as the oil in there will burn causing a further over rev

the exhaust will also need flushing as there will be oil in there too which will make it smoke like hell

only the cost to fix (parts and labour) -v- cost of car will tell you if it's worth the repair

You can pick up turbos for as little as £30 on ebay if you look. Wack one on! Quickly flush the cooler and jobs a good 'un! If you're handy with a spanner, shouldn't take you too long. Just drop the engine off its mount and get crackin!

You'll have either a Garrett t2 / t15 or KKK k14 / ko3 type turbo. The k14/t2 share the same manifold and oil lines. Likewise with the other two.

ETA also, i'd have though if it was running off it's own oil, then it would have been through the cold side of the turbo in which case there wouldn't be pooling of oil in your exhaust.
