I have seen several posts in the past referring to it. As you say, never seen a response from the powers that be. Mainly the answer is to use the full website. In which case why bother with a mobile one at all and why insist on sending me to it?

Pretty poor form really in my opinion but maybe I'm just having a bad day.

Either incredibly slow loading, doesn't load at all, doesn't link to adverts, doesn't link to video clips attached to articles on the front page, doesn't allow you to view articles from the front page and if it does manage to let you do that, then return to the earlier point about video clips........

What on earth is going on? Clearly there are ongoing issues that haven't been resolved properly. It would be understandable if the points raised were new ones, but they aren't......

Is it possible to actually get an answer? Or is it the same old guff about it being worked on.....

I'm obviously a fan of the site, and been here a while. Think some of the things on here are great (aerofoil and emsmans toylander to name a couple) but the site is getting increasingly frustrating and buggy.....

Answers on a postcard please. You could of course post them on here, and I would be greatful if you did, but it is unlikely that the correct page will open........

Our maintenance scheduled for tonight should help. We do realise the timeout needs to be longer, though, and are looking into it.

Maybe Haymarket need to provide the techies with the kit they need to make the site work? And that includes resources and doing away with the jokers that provide the mobile service (I understand this is run by a third party?). Surely if the web service is timing out then somebody needs to be performance tuning the backend!

It is true it's run by a 3rd party, which is why we can't just go change the timeout value. But it's timing out because the main site is running slow and that's because we're down a database server. I'm putting that server back in the loop in an hour, which should speed up the main site and as a result make the mobile site stop timing out.

So that's where we stand.

But it happens just about everyday, it's not like it's just when a server dies (unless that happens all the time)

Forgive me, I don't know your environment, but why can't you just performance tune the database server? By which I don't purely mean indexes.

Our database servers are very much performance tuned. Our problem lies when we lose one of those servers and have to double up. There's been a few things happen out of our control recently and we've had to do the best we can to keep the site running. Really can't go into it much more than that without telling you our platform architecture.

I think peoples main annoyance is that it really doesn't seem to be that performance related

I gave up with the mobile site over a year ago and use the main one on my phone due to the issues, I had them when FFPH 'appeared' to be fine

I don't really understand the need for the timeout? I dont mind when PH is running a bit slow as I can click a link and know that eventually the thread will open as I am on the main site

Clicking a link, then getting the timeout, then clicking a link, then getting the timeout ad infinitum is the infuriating part

I know in the past it has been mentioned that you have to deal with the lowest common denomninator regarding phones and so if someone is using an old Nokia or something

But I am not sure many of these phones exist anymore, I can't remember the last time I saw someone using a phone that wasnt a smartphone of some sort
