Well, at last....I'm in!

Picked up the 997 last night...after almost a year looking/dreaming/contemplating!!

Haven't had a real chance to open it's legs yet....but, initial impressions are inline with expectations!! Looking forward to giving it some detailing love later today!

As always, there are a couple of niggling things that I'd like to sort, asap!

The car has an alloy handbrake handle and gear knob....which is nice, but...the handle has a few ring impressions and thus, it's a bit bothering!

Any recommendations on where to source another, or is it OPC parts department and £600 only!

The car also has an ipod connection kit (armrest storage) - but, when completing the 111pt check prior to purchase the guys at Chester say NO NO NO....will void warranty etc.

Driving it back last night I noted a slight resonance from the passenger side speakers which I'd like to get sorted under the warranty....but, I suspect the ipod connection will bite me in the ass!

Does anybody have any experience of removing these kits? I'm guessing it will need a DME reflash, but do you typically need to remove the centre console etc?

Thanks guys,

Im confused confused

Does the car have an OPC warranty on it now WITH the ipod connection or are you saying they will not give you an OPC warranty unless the ipod connection is removed?

Where did you buy the car from? Did it come with a warranty and the ipod connection was already installed?

Congratulations on the car by the way, i've had mine for 5 days biggrin

P.S Pics please

PICS to follow!.....

No, I purchased the car private, with 14 months OPC remaining.

But, prior to my purchase I had the car go in for an 111pt check/borescope etc.

The check detected an RMS leak which they replaced under warranty, but at the same time informed me that the car also had a non-official ipod connector which would need removing in the future should I wish to renew the warranty.

But - when I take it in for the speaker vibration, I suspect that when the DME flashes up the ipod connector, the OPC with say NO!

Ah, ok. I understand now.

What make and model is the ipod connection kit, is it fully integrated with the PCM? Is it one of the mobridge (sp?) or denison ones?

If so, I may be interested in buying the kit from you once it's removed.

Edit for links....

Handbrake - http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/AluBrakeTEQ.h... Currently works out at £379 (minus shipping)

Handbrake & Gearknob in Alcantara - http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/pt67_490_-cma81-cmo1... £995

Hang on.....

They're saying you wont be able to renew the warranty because you have a 3rd party ipod connection???????

Personally, I'd be telling them to "do one". That's disgraceful.

On the other hand, leave it in until the warranty needs renewing, take it out for the inspection..... then put it back in.

Sorry, but that, imho, is just taking the p1ss. So by that definition, if you replace the speakers or the head unit, you'll invalidate the OPC warranty?

Don't know what else to say really - I'm shocked!

I have a Dension available - PM me if it's of interest. It was professionally installed in a 987 (including a dash-mounted iPod/iPhone cradle) and carefully removed. Can be installed with or without the cradle.

I think it's because the OPC could (not SHOULD) argue that because a third party has 'fiddled' with the wiring, they will not cover certain areas of the wiring......which means they probably cant offer a warranty on the whole car.

I'm with you though, if you have an engine issue and the reason they reject your claim is because you have an ipod connection then thats out of order.

yes Been like this for years.

That's why I didn't renew my warranty.

Just had an interesting conversation with an OPC warranty coordinator.

He agreed with me that an aux input ipod connector shouldn't really have any affect on speaker damage...the native vehicle stereo controls frequency outputs....

So, they're happy to look at it.

Common sense prevails?
