There's a very good reason behind this one lads n lasses...

Good mate has just found that both the rears on his RWD car (non Lotus) have worn down to the canvas on the inside due to incorrect Geo setup when they were replaced only about 3months ago.

Now this has got me worried as shortly after I bought el Beast I had a new set of advan rubber put on all round. I didn't think to get it Geo'd at the time - should I have done?

For the sake of £100 I'd rather get it done now and avoid a big tyre replacement bill if it needs it.

What are the warning signs of needing a check done? Anything blatantly obvious or just something you should do as a matter of course.

Cheers, Tim

Depends on your mileage.

I get it done once a year. The day I Geo'd my old S2 was the day I fell in love with it again!

Dont forget if it doesnt need adjusting it'll cost peanuts just to check!

Oh and if you think Elises come out of the factory with correct geo you'd be very wrong!

They only gve the poor guy 10 minuites at the end of the production line!!

It can't hurt.

Like the man says, if it's all spot on it's an easy and cheap check up. If it's not, it means for £100 you'll get a car that drives much better

I'm certainly hoping that the breadvan drives like a new car after i've paid through the nose for a geo check at BMW tomorrow.

I feel a blat/hoon on the cards Tuesday night, coming?

OK, I'm going to get it checked jus for peace of mind. Called Sinclaires as they're closest to me but they can't do anything until Aug the 3rd at the earliest, and they can't fit it in on a weekend.

Can anyone else in Kent/Essex recommend anywhere who can do it and won't charge an arm and a leg? If not I'll stick with Sinclaires as I'd like to check them out for potential future work.

If it has to go into them and I have to wait I'll probably ask them to fit a quickshift while its in. The throw from 4th to 5th is beginning to get on my jubblies.

Scared Stiff (here) have a really good following over at VX220.org. I would assume that they are just as good for an Elise.

IIRC they charge around £140 for a full geo setup.

They're practically in Scotland mate - I need somewhere local, Kent/Sussex/Essex or London.

Think you've got that bit wrong... Did the factory tour on Saturday and saw the laser alignment setup they use. straight after the goe there is a 'float' on the line so the guy has plenty of time to get the correct settings.

Northants is hardly Scotland!

It'd take 45 mins from the M1/M25 junction to get to Dav.

Not convinced by these guys. The spanner seemed a really nice guy, as did one of the desk chaps, but the other was a complete chief.

They tried to sell me the wrong compound bridgestones for a start and he basically implied I was a clueless twat for not taking his word for it.

haha! Yeah and he WILL spend more than 10 minuites on each car...!

A 'proper geo can take hours.

I think you're right bogie - they come well recommended by many and I know you've had a lot of work done by them. Also they are nearest so it makes sense. Will book it in and have someone shuttle me to/fro as needed - just would have like to have got it done in a day. Ho hum....
