12 days ago I picked up my new car, 3 year old 2.5T Mondeo Titanium X, it was quite literally spotless, put some new plates on it, and it could be a new car.

I dropped it off this morning at the local dealer to have a slightly dicky CD player looked at, I rang them an hour and a half ago to see what was going on. The CD player is dead and needs replacing, the good news is it covered under warrenty. The bad news is some doddery old disabled bint of about 102 year old has, in her words, 'nicked' the front wing.

bangheadranting

This minor nick means it needs a new passgener side front wing and the door spraying.

Fcensoredk.

That is all...

Edit: because iPhone managed to turn wing into wife...

You think that's bad? You should try using public transport with the bds.

Yes indeed.
And why are they always out and about on public transport OR in a private car at 8:30am; the precise time that people who NEED to travel for work purposes are trying to make good time? Being retired, why don't they just wait until say 10am onwards, rather than congesting the roads further.

That is very annoying frown

I had an immaculate mk3 Mondeo - bodywork was perfect, not even a scratch on the paint. That was until I left it in the student car park for a couple of days when I moved to uni - every corner on the bloody car had a scuff on it! banghead

And every other car in the place was either a brand new Mini or 1 series. Some people just have no fking respect for other people's property frown

Am I correct in thinking he had a diesel mk3 with over 400k on it? Or is that someone else?

They should be fking banned from driving at 60. It was an oldie that rear ended my car a few weeks ago. She didnt even know what had happened/what she was doing.

I bet she still pays 50% less insurance than me just because she's old.

I don't get it. You mean the car was dinged by someone in the dealer's car park, or someone from the workshop did it, or it was there before you bought the car but failed to notice it?

I don't think Sir Stirling Moss would back that idea. Nor would I

Clearly some motability customer went to the dealer to ask how to put the fuel into the car and crashed in the car park.

Not realistic to ban them but why not have a re-test at 60,70,80 and a health check.

If they have all their faculties then they have every right to be on the road.

Just wish they wouldn't drive in their hats.

I was stopped in a line of traffic and a car came round the corner and ran into the back of me - wrote off my car. Two years before I was stopped at traffic lights and a car failed to stop and run into the back of my car - £1500 to repair. Both drivers where under 20 - so don'tt allow a driver's licence until 21! Also an 19-year-old lost control and demolished 20 foot of my boundary wall.

My statement is as much nonsense as yours. There are good and bad drivers of all ages.

That's far too old. Should be 60, 62, 64, 66, 68, 70...

"Grey Hair? Beware" as I think the Public Service broadcast used to say. Or was it "Think Bike"?

Last Sunday morning we'd had our second sizeable overnight helping off snow. The road near us was untreated and good only for the kids on sledges and essential emergency services. But hang on lads! Watch out there's a car coming. No not a snowplough or a policeman in a Land Rover, but an ancient old lady making her one car journey of the week to church in her Fiesta Fusion. WTF?

I hope the Good Lord smiled on her way home as well.

The problem is that old people need their cars as much as you and I. In fact, probably more than lazy healthy younger people like you and me, as they arent fit enough to jog to the shops. so why shouldnt mrs miggins drive to the shops or to church in the snow, she has as much right as the 19 year old lazy slob...

Definitely some sort of health check should be done once they get very old, but these days there are some pretty damn fit 70 year olds on the road. My next door neighbour is 69 and would kick your arses if you said he wasnt fit to drive. He is damn fit and the year before last took a 997 turbo to 178 MPH on a private runway. A re-test at 80? now that would make more sense.

I sympathise with the author of this article, but dont generalise. Not all old drivers are bad.

My 212 year old former next door neighbour (who drove around for a week with her front wing ripped clean off) once reversed into my car removing a lot of paint from the wheel arch. She spent ages trying to deny it although backed down when I said I had videoed her doing it (I heard the screaming engine and saw the clutch smoking and thought I'd film it only to see her back straight into my car). Her solution to the whole thing was that she would buy me a 'pot of paint' and I could brush it on to cover up the mark.

In the end I didn't bother doing anything as until that point she had been a real pain to live next-door to (complaining about anything and everything) but after this she was nice as pie.

So glad I've moved though, it was half the reason I never bought the Chimaera I always wanted.

No way in a million years would she pass a driving test now.

As you've said and like with cars, age alone doesn't tell the full story. Ideally I think it should be every 10 years throughout your whole life increasing in regularity as age takes it's toll and as often as every year once you start getting really decrepit. Never going to happen though, logistical nightmare.

I also agree with the 'old people still need to get around' thing, but then so do 16 years olds and we don't let them drive. If you can't drive you shouldn't be allowed to drive.
