Have you tried rugby league shorts? As you are in Cheshire there may be a local rugby club with a shop, either a superleague team or a smaller local one. The Australian rugby league ones are pretty snazzy and are running short length rather than the wussy rugby union chaps who seem to be migrating in the direction of association football knee-length ones.

If you are looking for the skin tight stuff, have a look at cycling tops. They are usually made of really good wicking material that will keep you dry. Not as tight as compression gear, but that can be a bit constricting, especially in warm weather.

I don't have a bike, but I want one of these tops! Far better than the usual crude skeleton ones off Ebay.
