Is this possible?

I've bought a car with a plate that I don't particularly like, but I've had some interest to sell it. I've also got another plate on retention that I'd like to assign to the new car.

I know I can retain the current plate as is, but I understand the car would then go back to it's original plate (which I don't have) and I'd end up waiting a few weeks til I could put my other plate on the car.

So is it possible to skip the middle step and go from one plate on retention and one on the car to the other plate on retention and the other plate on the car?

I'm not sure if I have grasped this right but the last time I took my number off onto retention they allocated me a replacement number to put on in it's place straight away?

Yeah, that's why I'm asking. In the past, when retaining my plate I've been given the assigned the original plate back to the car.

I don't have a pair of these made up (as the car has another private plate at the moment) so I'd have to go and get some made, just to go on the car for a few weeks. Hardly seems worth it!

I have re read the original one (I was tired the 1st time), I can't see why you can't take one plate off onto retention and apply to have the retained one back on at the same time, I have done this along with a change of ownership previously at the local DVLA office and it was pain free,

Excellent, that's what I was hoping smile Just the information on the DVLA website makes no mention of it.
