Hello
Feeling depressed. Got caught by a scamera van on the A9 near Dunblane last week - long straight stretch of dual carriageway with no slip roads or junctions at that point.
Can anyone guess what I am likely to get for 93 in a 70 in Scotland. Can only find details of ACPO guidelines relating to England & Wales but nothing relating to Scotland. Will this be a £60/3 points job or will I be up before the sheriff?

I know the road very well! There are several cameras on this stretch, one of which is nicely positioned behind a large signpost completely out of sight.

I know the road well too but no matter how well we know the fixed camera positions there is no way we can predict unmarked vans parked in laybys with no advance warning. By the time I saw the feint red/yellow stripes on the back it was far too late.

Pepipoo mentions lots about ACPO and Magistrates but nothing about ACPOS or Sheriffs. I do not want to rely on English Law as Scots Law is different. TBH if I am just going to get 3 points and £60 then I will hold my hands up and take it rather than fight it and risk worse if I fail. It's just the principal that bugs me of the money grabbing attitude of an unmarked video van. I'm not even aware of that particular stretch being dangerous - as above it's a long straight and slightly downhill. Anyone that thinks these vans reduce accidents should ask the driver of the Renault behind me when I slammed the brakes on when I finally saw the van and realised what it was. It's an automatic reaction seen at every fixed camera - Oops camera brake hard, even cars doing less than the limit slam their brakes on
The shock of receiving the envelope, reading the speed and then having to show my wife was actually enough of a deterrent never mind the fine and points!!
Is my insurance likely to go up for one offence (with Norwich Union)?

Trevor.
Just re=checked re Scottish Law on Conditional Offer.
Section 75 Road Traffic Offenders Act 88 makes similar conditions to that in England except that your offer will come no less than from... roll of drums and trumpet fanfare..... the Procurator Fiscal.
Paid within 28 days and all done and dusted.
Really bad boys, I understand go to the District Court for whom special dispensation is given to deal with offences involving obligatory endorsement from a C.O.

It used to be, but because of the recent outcry, the sign it was hiding behind was moved 5ft to the left!

It was about 2 to 3 miles short of the Dunblane roundabout heading back to Glasgow near Allan Water. Stirling Police.
The fixed cameras between Dunblane and Perth I can at least accept are at accident blackspots. This was a poorly marked video van in a layby with no advance warning on a long straight stretch between 5 and 6 pm on a Tuesday evening - Only one reason for that and that's to make money.
