i'm close to buying a cat-d 996 gt2 and looking to get an idea of what to offer (or what to go up to)...
i've known the car pre-damage, have seen the damage (fairly superficial) and am confident of the repairs. it suits me, as it's going to be tracked and modified, and i'll feel less precious with it as a result.
it's a comfort 996.2 with approx 20k, full opc history and in otherwise excellent condition...

Hi there,
I'm no GT2 expert but a general rule of thumb with damaged, repaired cars is 60%-70% of proper market value.

That would make the GT2 around £30K ish I'd guess but being rare people may go a bit higher to get in one. You can get a straight one from mid £40Ks.

I'm sure the GT2 lads will tell you better than me.

And minesmile
Given the value of these cars I would question wether superficial damage would write one off unless there was a lot of it.

Plenty of mitigating circumstances that lead to cars being written off these days, of which the cars current undamaged market value is one very small part.

Ie supplying a like for like car to the insured, which may not just be for a couple of weeks if parts are on back order (for something special like a gt2).

I'm afraid that most underwriters will just see another old 911 with expensive main dealer parts & body shop rates.

If it were a keeper it wouldn't put me off as long as the price reflected this as with age it becomes less & less a factor but I would definatly need photographic evidence of what had happened.

As for price it depends on what you're comfortable at I guess. What's a good comfort worth 45k?

I don't think I'd be interested past 25 grand to be honest, it's just not a big enough saving otherwise.

£25K seems a little overkill, it would break for far more than that..

hence why i've never bought a cat status car, it just isn't worth it unless there's a massive discount
