Alternator Issues - advice wanted

So for a while the battery light has been coming on for 30secs or so a couple of minutes after starting (fine at startup) before going out again. Suspect is obviously the alternator, but no other issues, a tiny bit of belt screech on startup maybe but thats is. Concerned that although not a major issue now the alternator maybe on the way out so don't want it to fail miles from home, so I went and purchased a recon alternator.
Anyway after a lot of swearing at the siting of some of the mounting bolts I managed to get the old alternator off (engine is a Speed6) and mounted the recon unit. Put it all back together without an issue.

However - now there is a lot more belt screech, the headlights and dash lights sort of 'pulse' and the battery light is on for 50% of the time and flickering alot so......

1) Is the recon alternator OK and I just haven't got the belt tensioned up enough (it did seem quite loose)

2) Could the recon alternator be knackered as well

3) Or is there a problem somewhere else

I'd get a test meter on it when it's running and see if it's charging. You'll probably need someone to hold the revs up a little off idle, as unless the S6 is different from the AJP it won't charge at idle. Better yet is clamp meter to see what the charging current is doing.

Turns out it was the 2nd alternator also knackered. Interestingly on a digital meter it look fine (kicking out a health 14Volts) but it was clear on an analogue meter something was wrong with it, bouncing all over the place

Just fitted a salvage one from Bell Hill and all is now working perfectly
