Cheap diesel 4x4 for 1-2k - any views?
Discussion
Hi All.
I am in the process of selling my beetle as I want something bigger to cart my bicycles to shows/rides but also need space to pack the gf and the 3 dogs and luggage, with a bike on the back. I just want something cheapish to run and I dont have to feel bad about it getting dirty and slightly abused.
It has to be a diesel 4x4 with some space. I am considering a Ssangyong Musso but if there is something out there in my budget with a smaller engine that would suit I would be interested, eg, some kind of 4x4 estate car. I am wracking my brains and I am getting knackered with all the internet searches, so any suggestions, advice would be appreciated :-)
Thanks

Definitely not a small engine or cheap to run, but I love these:

We ran one at work for a few years. It was a 1991 with hundreds of thousands of miles on it. It just wouldn't break. We only used it for boat launches and recoveries as we had nicer trucks for customer deliveries and handovers of boats. It used to get driven right into the sea at times, up to the windows if we had to get a damaged boat out as an emergency, and always drove itself out, no problem!

These are good trucks, just watch for rear windows sticking which means you can't open the boot!

thanks guys. I want something with a bit of space too, so am thinking of going with the Musso, the one in the pic thats had loads done to it and is in great running order or maybe a Toyota Hilux Surf Double cab diesel
Thanks for the views

Good sign is with those side steps its never been off road Thanks for the views

However they are slower than a slow thing on a slow day

they can be slow but this is the turbo-diesel version (Mercedes engine) and apparently is fairly swift :-), we will see. I dont care really, I just need something with loads of space, in good condition and can get me from A-B but also cope in the snow and occasionally off-road.
This one also has been tuned, has plenty of upgrades, raised suspension, Discovery V8 rear springs, etc. The owner used it as his project so is more like his pride and joy but wants to buy another for another project. This is one of the nicer ones around and Musso's can be bought for really good money.
