Evening Gentlemen and not so gentle ladies.

Just spoken to Adrian Flux for an insurance quote and I mentioned the word tracker, which seemed to significantly reduce the quote.

There are hundreds of different trackers available. What have you got, why did you get it?

Suggestion time please!

Car value £9-10,000

Surely someone on here must have a tracker fitted?

I've got a Trackstar jobby fitted, costs £150 a year subscription fee and reduces my insurance by... about £150 a year. Great.

I wouldn't bother, certainly on a car only worth £10k.It might reduce your premium a bit but will cost around £400 to fit and about £140 a year subscription.

I have one fitted to my car which was required for my insurance when I bought the car as it was then valued at £25k.Now the car is only worth around £10k the insurance do not require it so Ive cancelled it.

Question..

So if your car is stolen, and your tracker helps it get recovered, does that mean your car is registered as a 'stolen recovery' on HPI, and therefore worth fk all?

And if so, why would you put it on?

It think it will only be registered as stolen/recovered if it is recovered after the insurance has paid out and therefore been sold on by the insursnce company.

I do not recommend Trackers to anyone living in N.Ireland - the transmitter has to be activated after the theft and by then it's too late. The Gardai do not have tracking fitted to their cars, so the thieves take the stolen car over the border and wait for the heat to die down.

The PSNI can't follow over the border- I believe other countries in Europe are also not equipped for the scheme. Good job I had GAP.

I'd imagine this is the reality for most of us.

If anything, I'd hope any would-be thief who might happen to steal my P&J crashes into a tree or lamp-post and ends his life in excrutiating pain, being burned alive and sobbing for his mummy. bds. mad

In the real world though, getting your p&j back which has usually just been parked somewhere quiet for 24 hours, to establish if tracker is fitted, saves on loss of ncb, and you can p/x for a lot more than the insurance pay out after excess etc is deducted, you really don't want it back, but at least it's you who can make that decision.rage

Not sure just how close to reality that always is though. I'd imagine many thefts include a caning of your motor - from cold - with little regard for suspension, etc. Or have I been watching too much Police, Camera, Action?

However, I do see your point.
