Oil temp?

Hi there,

Just bought an evolution 8 yesterday but, I have a small concern about the engine oil temperature.

It has a oil temperature gauge fitted and I've noticed after putting the foot time a couple of times it rises to 130*C which I think is pretty high! Is this normal? If not would could be the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hmm, I've not driven an Evo but I had an oil temp gauge in my old Cupra R, and driving that hard would not make the oil temp budge one bit, even on a hot day. It just got up to temp and sat there, though with that said it did have two decently sized intercoolers sitting up front and getting good airflow. That said, when I took it to a VAG specialist garage for some work, they all noted it was very hot under the bonnet and I had not been thrashing it on the way there, but that didn't affect it's running.

What kind of bhp is your new Evo making, or claimed to make?

Already answered this on the mlr but 130 degrees is very very high , in normal driving mine is between 70-90 and when driving hard it gets around 100

thats very high, if its not been fettled, that would possibly indicate something wrong. (blocked RAD)

If it has been fettled, I would gues that either your Rad isn't big enough or you need a oil cooler.

I see 115-120 on track for 20 mins and I am getting a bigger rad (My cars BHP is 40-50% more than stock).

How quick does it rise - are we talking 20 mins of putting your foot down or just a quick acceleration

What are your water temps like?

p.s. I have assumed you've check oil levels
