how hard it it to flush a cooling system which has had radweld added in the past?

i'm looking at a vehicle which the dealer has honestly told me this has happened to, and he's having it sorted out. it was because the radiator had cracked, but he's put a new on on the car.

There're additives you can buy which flush any crap out of a coolant system. Halfords do them, I recently had the system flushed on one of mine and the coolant is still a nice colour.

Bung it in, run it for a bit and replace the coolant, job's a good 'un.

cheers rod. that sounds good, as i wasn't sure about the waterways in the block. it's a 4.4 V8 so it needs all the cooling it can get!

I thought Radweld was a sealant, not a flushing agent??? Akin to - allegedly wink - putting a couple of raw eggs in, when we all watched black and white telly...

That's why I'm using it in one of my cars, anyway smile .

It is. If you had read the OP's question properly, you would realise that he wants to remove any traces of Radweld with a flushing agent.

Empty out coolent, put new stuff in.

Radweld isn't some trolling chemical that blocks up engines as many mechanics will tell you.

good stuff. doesn't sound like a show stopper. looked up the price of a rad for a 4.4(petrol) range rover, so i can see why radweld was tried!

I think it might have been Jaguar that started it all, they used to put radweld (or similar) in with the coolant on each service, and after a good few years, there were some issues with it, but that was from years of use.

One shot in a rad if there is a slow leak will often work wonders, it'll fix a weeping gasket for example, but it won't fix a gaping hole.
