Track day prep
Discussion
Hi guys,
I know this has been asked before but search is down (yet again).
Got my first trackday booked this Sunday at Cadwell Park, was just wondering if anyone had any advice to offer with regards to what (if anything out of the normal) I should be doing to prepare the car? Should I keep tyre pressures normal (road) to start?
From what I can remember reading on previous threads, after doing a few laps I should come in and park the car up with handbrake off and open the clams to help cooling?
What stuff should I take along?
Oil?
Coolant?
Tyre inflator?
Jack?
Handful of tools?
Is there anywhere to keep this stuff while i'm out on track?
Thanks for any advice
Paul

Hi Paul , great news on the track day , boy you early in the year guys are keen
Take some fluids spare with you , a foot pump and a good quality tyre pressure gauge , on my Bridgestone so2 I saw a 10psi increase in pressure when hot so best to check you pressures when hot and if they are high drop some air .
Cadwell is very tight so build speed carefully and mind the traffic it can get a bit busy .
Have fun Tux

Suggest you remove anything stored behind the seats and in the door pockets as these tend to move around with the 'G'. Also take a large bag/collapsible plastic box to store all your stuff whilst on track otherwise you'll have to leave everything on a pile in a corner somewhere.I know this has been asked before but search is down (yet again).

Lastly, and not wishing to be a Merchant of Doom here, take your AA/RAC card in case you need "collecting" (like I was once from Brands).
thanks for the tips guys.
I'm on the SO2A's so will keep a close eye on tyre pressures.
Im taking advantage of my 5 free track-day's insurance with CCI so that's not an issue, and also never leave home without my AA card considering I drive a Noble and an Alfa
I think it's a requirement anyway of all the TDO's that theres no loose items in the car when on track, so will make sure I do that.
Also have a couple of instruction sessions booked on the day, which should prove very helpful, as Tux says, Cadwell can be pretty tight!
Now to try and find a bag/box to store all my stuff in.......

Call them beforehand, just so they're aware that you're going on a track. I'm pretty sure one of my insurers said I can have track days but I must inform them before with a phone call. Not sure if that was CCI or Hagerty now though...Blu3R said:

+1 - they must approve each track day - get it in writing/email.AMG Merc said:

Instructor lessons are great, everything you thought you know about driving, will be given a good shake down, and most of it thrown out of the window. Don't go out for too long with the instructor as you WILL get brain-overload after about 15 miniutes
Good to take a session but I don't remember being overloaded, more like bored by "brake, turn, gas, ok" repeated too many times. Cadwell has got to be my favourite track - albeit i did it in my P1 in my pre-Noble days!
You could get your tyres "nitrogen filled" which stops the pressure fluctuating when hot. i had this done but since have changed the tyres and no longer have it. never got to witness the benefit!
Take a tarpaulin so you can store your stuff under something waterproof whilst you are out on track.
Finally, try and get some air off 'the mountai'n - you'll see what i mean when you get there.
Enjoy.

Was a great day, definitely got the hunger for more now! Was a little bit intimidated at the start of the day when 75% of the track cars arrived on the back of trucks, not road legal!
As said, Cadwell is a brilliant track, nice and twisty but with a couple of decent straights and the weather was sunny and dry all day.
I was losing traction coming up the mountain, couldnt keep my foot down there!
I had 2 20 minute sessions with the instructor, first one at the start of the day was very useful, pointing out lines, brake points, turn in points etc. 2nd session a couple of hours later he pretty much just sat there and watched me drive round the circuit.
Couple of pics:

Maybe have to do Blyton Park this sunday too....

Sounds like you had fun, was the instructor getting you to "brake-steer??"...weight onto the front wheels into the turn. 15-20mins is a good time to listen and then try to put into practice on your own. I found I was coming off the brakes to quickly and unsettling the car aka "tank-slapper" Castle Coombe next for us, once the weather improves!!!

Yes he had me brake steering especially hard coming into the 'mansfield' corner, as its downhill as you approach, amazing how much sharper you can turn in though! Agree with you that 15-20 mins is enough, you then just need to keep at it yourself.
There wasn't much quicker down the straights on the day, though them Radicals are something else through the bends!
Can see me doing plenty of track days this year.....

Thought about the idea of going halves with my brother and having a radical for track days....but doesn't that start to render the Noble a bit useless? Love the idea of one though....
Coombe was the scene of my first love-in with a Noble...a certain orange one! Definitely keen to join you and take mine there for the first time.
