painting a plastic bit on a BMW
Discussion
Just bought a 320d Touring and have noticed that the plastic panel that runs across the top of the rear number plate is a different colour to the metal tailgate bits. Guess it's faded in the sun or something. This pic probably doesn't show it too well but it's different enough to be annoying.

Just wondering if spraycan paints are any easier to apply successfully that they used to be? Or should I just book it into my local garage for a proper job. The car is metallic silver.

Get the paintcode details from the sticker on the suspension turret at the front of the car and head to your local Halfords.
If they don't have the paint on the shelf, they can make it up for you. Get yourself some primer and laquer whilst you're there.
It's an easy DIY fix, even if you're a cack-handed f
kwit, providing you take your time and prep the surface well.

I certainly fit that description. Are you saying brush it on, or spray? If they don't have the paint on the shelf, they can make it up for you. Get yourself some primer and laquer whilst you're there.

Make sure you clean and mask it off well or better still take the part off to spray and do it when it's not windy out/inside a well-ventilated garage/shed/kitchen... You'll probably be ok, but you might need paint that's made for plastic- I needed to respray the plastic bumpers on my Merc and the paint they gave me was for plastic- the body shop I used before used normal paint and because of the flex of the plastic it started cracking and peeling off... as Frances said it's all in the prep, that's why I hate doing body/paintwork
