....and is willing to admit it on PH?

[flamesuit engaged]

I've been looking for a decent private plate for the best part of 2 months now and I think I've finally found one. Only problem is that in order for it to actually mean anything it needs to be spaced like this A1BCD rather than A1 BCD. No other trickery, perfectly ANPR readable.

Just wondering how much grief other people get? Not ure if it's worth the hassle :/

It's not worth it, no. Besides, if you need to alter the spacing to make it mean anything, you're buying the wrong plate.

I have S5 CVV & R5 CVV with the V's bolted together to look like W's.

It doesn't really bother me to be honest smile

Legal plates are a good thing, if you're mis-spacing the characters to get it to 'say' something, chances are that 'says' something about you! I don't think anyone other than you is ever going to look at your private plate with any admiration or envy, so I'd get get a legal plate made up.

£17,000 or £650...thats the difference between one that would work with the space and without.

TBH I dont care if its considered chav or whatever, its just too hard to find a plate that isn't owned by a dealer who wants stupid money for it. I'm just concerned that I'll be constantly pestered by the police.

I have a properly spaced plate, but it is a bit smaller to fit better on the front of the car.

I've had mine since the C plates came out which must be 12 years and never had an issue before or after ANPR. I even had it on my M3 and was pulled just so the policeman could have a look round my car.

I'm liking the M3 a lot more than the plate.

I've never liked the concept of private plates anyway to be honest. Almost everyone I've met who has one I dislike for various reasons. I think it tends to say something bad about the owner.

Disclaimer: I would never pre-judge someone on their number plate alone.

I had a number plate that caused no end of problems, with legal spacing.

Got stopped a number of times for displaying false plates.

It took some convincing that the O was an O and not a 0.

I even had a letter from the DVLA telling me that my registration documents were incorrect.

"the O is and O and not an 0" did cause confusion!

Got shot of it, too much hassle!

1) Legally spaced personalised plate = more money than sense.
2) Illegally spaced personalised plate = chav.

I suppose I fall into the first category.

have to agree with the poster above...whenever i see a plate with silly spacing i think chav... it just cheapens the look of the car

They were released to buy (C1 - C20 ??? cherished numbers) years after C prefixes were current.
