Hi all,

First post on Piston Heads smile

I was wondering if anyone on here has ever converted a V8 Engine into a Coffee Table (similar to that on Top Gear)?? I'm thinking about doing this as a weekend project, and there are a few guides on how to do this online.

One thing the guides miss out though, is how to clean the engine back to basics and get it looking the nice silver colour as they all do!? Is it a case of maybe steam cleaning the engine block, and then spray painting it? Or Sand blasting - although this is expensive :s I'm not sure whether to try and do this myself or just buy one already made - I think I would prefer to spend time and do it myself, assuming costs are low. If anyone know how to get the engine block back to basics and then to that really nice solid silver colour, I would appreciate any advice?

Many thanks smile

Hi!

Check out these threads on engine coffee tables and how to clean up a block to use for a table.
Everything you need to know should be there! smile

It may be a V12 now but it was a V8 that came out of the 928.

Chemical dipping brings aluminium back to 'as new' but you'll need to find a company who can do it for you as the chemicals are very toxic and also to expensive for the average person to have in a big vat.

I can't help with the OP, but I once went to someone's house where he was using an Aston V12 block as a wine rack. Coolest wine rack ever.
