Hi, the other day we received in the post a letter addressed to a name we did not recognise, not anyone that we recall had lived at our home before us, we are the third owners in 35 years. It was a ms though, so maybe married and kept a ms to mrs?
Anyway , letter referred to an account ending with 3 digits showing, but the rest was blank. It said that her national savings account was going to becoming postal only from May 2012', and that her passbook would cease to work then. All correspondence would be by post.

I called them and explained we'd never heard of this person, but of course they would not give us any details. He said to write in and explain she did not live here and they could stop future correspondence. However, if this is some scummy scam scam scam, I'd quite like to see such correspondence!
He confirmed it was a savings account only, but no other details about age etc of the account or account holder.
We've been here 7 years and never seen ANY correspondence in this woman's name, and no one in the street ( only 12 houses) recognises the name.

WWPHD?

We also had one of these letters, addressed to the person who lived in our property (they died in the mid-80s). I'm just going to write to NS&I and say they popped their clogs, sounds like yours might be the same.

Yes, but the name is not a name of anyone who has lived in the house, we know everyone who has, family wise.

It could of course be a woman who got married and change name but not address, but checking it again, it does say miss not ms or mrs.

It says that you can close the account if you don't like the change, maybe I'll get hem to send me a cheque !!,

Well I'd write to them (using the address from their website), and request confirmation that the account is removed from your address.

this

I don't like the idea of someone who has nothing to do with my place appearing on any list as being something to do with it.

We've occasionally had letters for unknown persons at our address - always get in touch with whoever they are from to make it clear they are nothing to do with us or the address and to amend their records. There is no question it's wrong/odd/mistake in our case - we've lived in the house from new!
