Hi all, this is my first post and i am unable to put into words how great it feels to be a the proud owner of a 4.2 Cerb. This is my first ever TVR and I can not thank Griff4.0 enough for bending my ear and getting me on the road to "optimax ecstassy".
My Cerb is a 97 model in Glacier Green with a full Mushroom and Cream leather interior.
In the 5 weeks I've had my Cerb it seems apparent that the 3,000 miles insurance capping is utterly inapropriate... as I have already enjoyed 2/3 of my annual quota, so a guess its time to renegotiate with my broker
Thus far the car has been a real dream, without a single problem that wasn't instantly rectified with a bit of common sense. I must be honest and although the car has been in fine fettle the driver has encountered 2 moments of extreme paranoia.
1) first time the temp gauge hit the 100 i almost sh*t myself whilst thinking "what have I done with my life savings..my oh my
little did I know at the time that this was usual behaviour for my newly aquired beastie.
2) whilst tearing about the beautiful hills of the Derwent valley my oil pressure dropped to 0 and the oil light came on...this was coronary care time... after a frantic dash to the local "halfwits" store and the purchase of some slick 50 and a litre of mobil one, it was obvious that the oil fill level on my dipstick needed to be kept at its max line and not at the 3/4 point.
3) it seems the indicators have a mind of their own and only work when they want to, the right turn is generally ok, but the left turn is possessed, it works on its own terms and is infrequent at the best of times.
4) my bonnet has the unfortunate tendancy to lift at speed, of course not above 70 as I have yet to push the car beyond the legal limit, except for the time that nice policeman pointed out that i was not playing by his rules whilst pottering down the M5 south of Gloucester, he was very nice and after a friendly chat, he advised me not to do it again which i now most sincerly adhere to.

Other than these small hic-ups the car is a motoring orgasm, it seems i need to have my face surgically altered to remove a newly aquired grin that even is present whilst i sleep.
my two teenage girls absolutely adore the car whilst my beloved spouse thinks i now own what she describes as "Beelzebub with four wheels"...she hates it, but hey darlin' you'd better get with the program

many thanks to everyone who takes the time to post info and help, i can assure you all that without these snippets of wisdom newbies like myself would be nervous wrecks within a few days of TVR ownership...keep up the good work

Kind regards,
Cooky

Righty, bonnet lifting can be fixed by a joospeed mod (click on his adverts on this site/ search for them) - have tested it up to 130 on track so far with absolutely no problems. Will get a high speed run done soonish, but doubt they'll be a problem.

The indicators is a new one to me, never had any real problems except for the indicator stalk coming a little loose. Havent got the Cerb here atm so cant check but worth checking the electrics boxes above the fuel tank. Have a look at all the connectors, it might just be a case of plugging one in again properly. If its just one side at a guess a switch further down the stalk could be playing up/badly adjusted. Really cant help much because our Cerb isnt here at the moment.

Err what else - ah yes, 3000miles limited mileage? Do yourself a favour and get that raised significantly, not only will you feel better for enjoying your car more often, the car itself seems to run alot better when used regularily enough. Whether thats day to day use or just the odd weekend blast, it doesnt matter - 3000miles is not enough.

Oil levels dont sound too good? As with most cars its worth keeping it topped up and checked regularily. Running low on oil will inevitably ruin an engine although if you have dealt with this quickly enough all should be fine.

Temperature wise dont worry about it going above 100 occaisionally, they all do that sir, and soon come back down to more reasonable levels with the fans/ an opening in an otherwise traffic filled journey.

Other than that, enjoy it - fantastic cars. Hope to buy Dads one as soon as I can afford it/ I can convince him to sell it. Thats looking a little unlikely though, so I might have to settle for Dia Capps car instead. Hard life eh?

ENJOY!
