Stick on no. plates

Have seen a Griff on Dream Machines with a front stick on plate. Are these legal, where do you buy them, and do they pull off easy, without damaging the paint. Thanks a lot in advance.

Yes, they come off easily if you use a hairdryer to heat them up - no, strictly following the letter of the law, they are not legal - but you'd have to have really peed off a traffic cop for them to bother about it I would think.

I saw that car at Dream machines at the weekend.
It also means losing the TVR badge off the front.
No great problem as far as Im concerned, on less thing to polish around!

The Griff looked so much better with its big open mouth too.

Have stick on number on my 4.3BV ,its smaller than the plate but it lets more cool air into front grill.
is it legal? who gives a s----t.

mines got a stick on...no they're not legal. havn't had any probs yet with lots of cops checking the plate out. its easily visible and doesn't hide the number (spacing etc) which seems to be what they'rer interested in. But if you'd p1ssed them off it's one more thing to do you for!

but the small plates used by many aren't legal either

both aid cooling tho.

On the ones i have seen on the bonnet they have stuck the badge on the cross member of the Grill where teh No. plate was.

I am thinking of putting one on the front of mine, i had one one on me Caterham ,if you are going to fit one you stick the numbers onto the white back and spray a fine mist of water onto the paint work over the area you are going to fit it this allows you to move it about if you need to and then use a credit card to scrape the bubbles of air and water from the center out i watched a pro fitting big side decals on a new car once and he gave me the run down ,i fitted the Caterham in this way and it was spot on regards Steve.

Neilmac, if you are anywhere near Diss the little motor spares shop who sells just about everything will make it up for you. Its in the main road just past Safeway supermarket. You may need log book for your car.

Sorry to disagree on this one but I have found the service particularly poor. Plates have taken weeks to arrive. After numerous phone calls and emails to them they still have not supplied me with a replacement plate for the one that was incorrect.

I don't like to put negative comments about a company on here but I'll make that an exception for FancyPlates.

I think the only car to legally have a bonnet mounted stick on number plate is the E Type Jag.

No they don't. My Griff had one on, and I spent several hours picking the old plate off bit by bit before giving up and just shoving a new one on top!!

Getting harder to come by, these plates - not only are they illegal because of the non-vertical positioning and lack of BS/Euro compliance, but the rules introduced at the beginning of last year relating to proof of identity for purchase of number plates have made it very illegal to sell them, since you buy the adhesive back ground, then stick individual, self-adhesive letters on yourself.

I have one on one of my other cars (which has no means of mounting a vertical plate), but I had a hell of a job finding a replacement last year.

Your best bet is the smaller motor factors, who still hav ethem in stock from before they were made illegal.

Praise where praise is due! www.fancyplates.com have done it again - ordered last week and plate arrived this morning formatted exactly as requested.

Have used these people 3 times now and they are spot on.

I'll second that Joolz, I ordered mine in July and am still waiting, even after 7 phones calls and 43 emails!!! And they have my money already!!!!!!! All I can say is the worst service ever!
