Ok so this is embarrassing but how the hell do you get the sidelight bulbs out in a '94 Chim?

(I took out the grille and went in like James Herriot up a cows arse...)

I managed to do the dipped / main beam bulbs - the offside one had blown on dipped beam but I always change headlight bulbs as a pair...

But the nearside sidelight has also gone and for the hell of me I couldn't work out (by feel alone) how to get it out ... I can feel two push on connectors but can't for the life of me work out how to get the bulb out. Does it twist, squeeze or what?

Just done my lights, the side light is seperate, so pull wires off the back and then work it a little side to side.
Probably are a little rusted in place but they will come out, good luck

Have to say I was a little shocked by the state of the reflectors when I had a close look through the lenses ...

...maybe I should just get them done - might be easier to swap the bulbs by taking the front off the car. biggrin

Hi there,

Like i said before i just did mine and took a little time to do but worth it

you may need some new things eg reflector fitting kit from clever trevor as i am sure yours will be rusted up.

Make sure you have a flat wall so you can mark where your lights shine now and make sure you mark centre of wheel on the floor to make sure it is the same distance as when you started., much easier setting lights up after.
A useful link is the one below and take your time to do it right.

Good luck need anymore help give me a shout

Holy mother of God! £130 per reflector!

Looks like this might be a good time to look at doing that Lupo light conversion ... wonder if these would be a bit too bling?

hehe

Ruddy 'ell, they're bling!

Stick to the standard ones or you'll have to buy a medalion smile.

They're awesome aren't they? They do a "black" set too which are a bit less bling. hehe

I've always had a liking for the "projector" style of lights and LED sidelights would never need replacing so the combination sounds ideal...

...but bugger me the execution of those lights makes the tail lights on my old RX-8 look dull!

Agree - £130 per reflector is just taking the p1$$.

Has anyone looked at getting them re-silvered?

I know this isn't going to be to many people's taste on here but i'm going to mount some driving lamps like on the griff (where the grill is) to solve the poor lights issue, at least with full beams on. Can't imagine anyone else has done it but will see what they look like and whether it works.

Its a tough call with all the opions available, re chrome the old ones, buy lupos, tuscan conversion or even the later style Mark 2 chimaera ones, pays your money and takes your option. I think they all look well, its just down to personnel choice, and of course the funds available? smile

Ah glad it's not just me then Mike. Haven't seen anyone else that's done it. Need to move the plate on mine first and then cut the grill so they fit nice and flush. I personally think it should look pretty good as well. You got any idea on sizing of lamps needed ? I haven't measured it up yet.

...been thinking about it too - I have the old front end which has a grille so it might be quite easy to mount additional lights in there.

That was my thought as well. I'm on a bit of a mission with a load of things on her this weekend so i'll report back once i've given it a go. Can't see it being that tough though. Cutting and fitting new carpets on the other hand ... i am not looking forward to !

Given that the Lupo lights are £100 (or less) a side then when my reflectors don't pass the MOT I think it'll be time to go that route. biggrin

I reckon I have at least one more MOT left in mine before they get too bad - at the moment they're just looking very matt.

You did your own Lupo lights didn't you Mike? You said you had been marking the beam centres on the side of the fridge or something?

Chest freezer actually.

Put it on stands, marked the centres on the freezer atthe end of the garage then cut the buggers out!

I think at £130 a reflector (OK - there is somewhere a bit cheaper that someone mailed me but they were still £80+ with VAT) is going to mean a serious look at going Lupo again ... I did ask Carisma if they'd ever looked at using the GTi's Xenon lights instead of the standard Lupo ones. biggrin

Don't suppose you fancy beer and pizza and providing moral support while I do scary cutting of bodywork? biggrin

(I think it's got to be ECU replacement first ... lights can wait a while but the thought of cutting out what's there at the moment and just glassing in something completely different scares the sh*t out of me!)
