Basically found a few weeks ago after washing my car down there was some water in the spare wheel well but couldnt work out where it was from, so got it all out and dried it out and caked all the rear boot in WD40 and left it for a few weeks, in that time it has rained and snowed etc and it hasnt got in anymore. So i went and washed it the other day, low and behold theres water in there again nono

So obviously when im using the jet wash on the car im obviously getting into a join somewhere where im not supposed to be, but did manage to find that the water is getting into the rear tailgate and is seeping out of the drain holes.
Rather conveniently on the mk6 theres 3 drainholes, two on the outside of the boot seal ( on each end of the tailgate near the bottom corners) and one inside which is in the middle underneath the locking mechanism rolleyes. The boot seal that goes around the boot of the car is doing its job it checked this and it was all dry inside the line of where the tailgate meets the boot.

Heres some photos i took the first time i found it there was alot more water than this, also to note when i washed it this time i had snowfoamed it but when i washed it off i wasnt harsh with the jet wash and wasnt purposely trying to get any of the joins or lines etc etc.

So as you can see
Fig.1 Water in the boot and water siting around area of the tailgate latch

Fig.2 Another shot of the amount that had trickled through

Fig.3 Said tailgate latch and you can just see the drainhole where the water has been leaking out of undurneath the lock.

One thing i did notice is that some of the water that had been tricking out of it was green, that same colour green thats currently in my washer fluid :hmm:

So me and my dad thought it was either going to be

-Spoiler not sealed to the tailgate correctly, water being forced in underneath and down into the boot.

- Rear middle brake light not sealed properly and water being forced in and down into the boot.

-Water getting in behind screw holes of the number plate

Then possibly water getting in either behind the ford badge or inside the strip that sits above the number plate and holds in the number plate lights, kinds trying to cover all areas here!
So today i taped over the screw holes of the rear number plate and just screwed the plate back on, i could have possibly double sided taped them back on but if nothing changes then i dont think ill put it down to that as the physical size of the holes being covered couldnt possibly warrant the amount of water thats there.

So basically after that large and boring essay ive just had to put you through, anyone ever had anything like this or any ideas of what i should look at next?

Thanks for reading muchly appretiated! thumbup

Is this a Fiesta ST? For me, it was getting though the bolt holes in the boot for the spoiler. I had my spoiler nicked and when i put a new one on i didn't use any sealant, so it was letting LOADS of water in (boot had around a inch of water in it!)

Cheers for the reply overlag smile

I am 99.99% sure ive found the issue and have sorted it now, it was basically what you said above where water has been getting in.

Took the spoiler back off tonight, got all the old double sided tape off, relaid some new stuff and siliconed up the holes to stop any water getting through!

the .1% is for me to change at a later date when ive water tested it hehe
