File corruption cause?

I took this picture this evening (originally in RAW) and there is this area in the bottom right corner that I assume is data corruption. The issue can be seen when looking at the raw image on the card before it is transferred but the preview on the camera doesn't show it.
This has happened once before and I wrote it off as a one off, but now it's happened again. Any idea what is causing this?
The problem happened both times on the same card (8gb Lexar) but I have taken quite a lot of photo's on the card between the first time and the second without any problem. I regularly reformat the cards in the camera.
The fact that the preview on the camera doesn't have the problem makes me think that the problem is with the card and I've quarantined it for now.
Do you think the problem is with the camera? It's a Canon 50D a couple of years old now.

It maybe that the preview on the camera comes from an embedded preview image contained within the RAW and not the RAW data itself - hence the preview image looks ok as that data is uncorrupted.
I'm guessing the results will look the same no matter which RAW processor you use...
As you said, stopping using that particular card seems like the right course of action.

Yes I think there is an embedded jpg, my thought was that as the jpg is ok there is data coming from the sensor and its when it's writing to the card that the data is being lost. At least that is my hope....Gassing Station | Photography & Video | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
