If you look back at the threads I have raised you will see that I had a lot of problems with my new car during the first eight/nine months of ownership and I began to wonder why the hell I bought a TVR.

But, it was finally sorted out two months ago and I have certainly fallen in love with my Chimaera 450 again. I eventually moved the maintenance of my car to TMS and many thanks have to go to them for trying really hard to sort the car out for me and to TVR Power who finally solved the problem.

And to anyone reading this who is thinking about buying a TVR ......Do it!!!!! Yes, some of them do have problems but with some dealers like TMS and support from TVR Power they will sort it out.

There is nothing in this world better than the grin that a TVR can put on your face...roof down and hit the mister angry pedal.....sex without the mess!!

I have even become uninterested in most of the boy racers (still get the odd red mist coming down), it's just a waste of half a litre of Optimax to make the point again and again when they can't even smell my exhaust they're that far behind at the next roundabout.

Thank God for TVR, Different, Bloody Quick, British and so much fun.....John

P.S. If there is one thing that I have learnt during the last year, it is to take the advice of members like MikeyT and research thoroughly before buying....I have learnt the hard way and could have saved myself a lot of pain, time and money even buying a new one.

Ford Prefect - glad to hear that you've finally got it sorted but do tell us what more about the diagnosis etc and what/who fixed it - TVR Power/TMS etc.

Just in time for the summer too - excellent!

It's a very long story but basically the engine started misfiring and everything from the plugs to the airflow meter were changed to try and resolve it over about a two month period.

It then spent a week at TMS and they systematically replaced just about everything to try and fix it. Towards the second half of the week TMS were holding twice or more daily conference calls with TVR Power looking for new ideas.....even had the fuel injectors out to watch the fuel pattern and the manifolds off with the engine running to try and analyse the problem that way....but still misfiring.

At this point TVR Power said they needed to see the car before they could do anymore. So about a week later I took Trevor to Power in Coventry and met Dom. This guy is amazing and he decided he would strip and insepect the engine....cos "it had a bit of a rattle"...he must have a good ear cos I couldn't hear anything but I haven't been around these engines for years....I believe he worked in V8 engine development at Blackpool in the past.

But in his opinion the actual problem was a fault in the top engine wiring loom. Power had the car for a week, dismantled and inspected the engine, replaced the top engine wiring loom after finding a higher than normal resistance somewhere in the loom and a general tidy up under the bonnet from all the part changing.

Dom also decided to run the engine (450) on a 500 chip for a while because it had been running lean for so long. It's due to go back to be rechipped with the 450 chip soon.

TMS put a lot of time and effort into trying to fix the car and, in my opinion, TVR Power are the dogs whatsits. By the way, if you live near to Power it is worth giving them a call for a price on a service....

Blimey! Thats two thirds of the price from a dealer and these fellas sound like complete and utter V8 gurus! When my servicing deal finishes I shall be travelling up to Cov!

TVR Power is the division of TVR Engineering that builds the engines. So if anyone should know ...

If the engine is running good on a 500 chip why convert it back?

TVRNA - good point but the engine is just a bit lumpy on tickover and crawling in traffic as well as not always settling back to tickover at 750 revs....sometimes sticks for a few seconds at 1400 revs. mentioned these points to Dom at Power who thought this was down to the 500 chip.

Final concern is the possible reaction of the old insurance boys if they found out although I could inform them of the change and I expect they would say "Don't worry John old mate we won't charge you any additional premium"......in my dreams maybe!!!
