Clutch Slave Cylinder Compatibility

My recent request about positioning the clutch slave actuation rod in the clutch release arm was kindly answered by Mr Phillpot (thanks again Mike).
On installing the new (correctly located) slave cylinder I found myself unable to fully disengage the clutch. Eventually, after, bleeding the circuit 4 times and fully extending the actuating rod to within 3 turns from the end of its thread I gained just enough travel to select all forward gears (reverse still crunches though). Although the bite point of the pedal is only an inch or so above the carpet, the car drives OK but I'm uncomfortable with such a limited pedal travel.
Removing the new TVRcarparts supplied slave cylinder yet again (I'm getting good at this) and comparing it with the original Girling part I find that the new cylinder's bore is 1" rather than the 0.75" of the original part (their lengths are the same). Fluid dynamics aren't my strong point but am I right in thinking that the volume of fluid displaced by full clutch pedal travel will not move the 1" slave's piston as far along its bore as it would with the original 0.75" slave? If this is the case than I can appreciate why gear engagement is so marginal. Any advice gratefully received

Absolutely right - displacement is proportional to piston area so changing from 0.75" bore to 1" bore you would only have about a little over half the original travel at the slave.Gassing Station | S Series | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
