Gearbox/diff oil smell inside Tam

I seem to be getting an occaisional strong smell of gearbox or diff oil inside the car, I noticed on a quick blast this weekend, that on a long overrun followed by acceleration, I actually could see oil smoke inside the car. It's definately not engine oil. Anyone had a similar issue? or can you offer a possible fix?. I noticed that the gaiter around the gear lever has a fairly big gap? maybe thats the issue?

I seen elsewhere that the rear pinion seal on the T5 g'box can leak. This maybe leaking and allowing gear oil to get on to the exhaust giving rise to smell etc.

Yep, just replacing mine before it starts to leak seriously. Its easy enough for oil to be splashed onto the exhaust pipe and that would certainly be the first place I'd look
