As you mention motorised dish I'm assuming this is for TV and not a broadband connection?
Most seem to think a 1m dish is acceptable, but if you are going to the expense of setting up a motorised dish then a 1.25 might also net you some stuff from other birds too.
What decoder box are you planning to use and are you planning to get HD channels?

Ermmm.. This is for TV but it will need to be connected to my broadband if you see what I mean.. I will be getting a VU+ Duo. I would like to be able to pick up as much football as possible. HD would be ideal. Most seem to think a 1m dish is acceptable, but if you are going to the expense of setting up a motorised dish then a 1.25 might also net you some stuff from other birds too.

Do you have any experience of it working in Essex or know anyone?

Plenty of forums around to help you get going. PM me if you want some pointers.aero93 said:

Soory, can't help on that front I'm in Ireland. I'm pretty sure if you join the right forums you'll find other 'enthusiasts' that will be able to help.Have you setup a motorised dish before? It's not too difficult once you get the motor aligned south properly. We usually peak the dish to a satellite known to be due south so probably 1 West would work for you - much easier than faffing around with a compass.
As said a 1.2m dish should be fine and you'll be able to get stuff (e.g. Tring) on 16E. 1.2 is overkill for stuff on 13E and 28E so if those are the only ones you are interested in you could just use a regular sky dish on the motor.
Triax are a good make in case you were unsure, but there are other cheaper ones.
I'm assuming you know Live On Sat - that will show you which satellites are transmitting which games.
lyngsat as above will give you the EIRP (essentially the radiative power) for each satellite and transponder that you want to receive from at your location. This can roughly be translated into dish size but with dishes bigger is always better especially if you want to reduce the risk of signal fade due to rain/snow.

Don't bother. Few years back i used to work for a company fitting viasat (amongst others) in pubs.
I don't think i saw a single customer who didn't have issues the second it started raining. Sirius is the satellite (4.8e), see footprint maps below:

Just curious like, but what is there worth watching on 4.8E? I've never heard of anyone looking there.I don't think i saw a single customer who didn't have issues the second it started raining. Sirius is the satellite (4.8e), see footprint maps below:

13/16/19/28E are all really common for Europe TV. I know a few years back there was a bit on some of the West birds, 6 seems to ring a bell.
(I'm a bit out of touch with this stuff now a days).
