E46 320i or Saab 9-3?

Hello, i'm considering either a E46 320i or Saab 9-3.

I've learned a few things about the BM in the last couple weeks but don't know much about the 9-3. My dad had one a while ago and liked it, good looks/drive etc, but i don't know much about their reliability. I heard the diesels are best avoided, dunno about petrols though? Anyone owned either?
