Folks,

Looking for a good but less well known Lakes get away.

I have previously done L'enclume and Holbeck Ghyll.

Can anyone recommend a smallish guest house with a decent restaurant similar to the above. Quality of food more important than quality of accomodation.

Cheers

Went here a few years ago but not sure what it's like now. Still has a Star!

Went to the Sharrow Bay towards the end of last year - was ok but staff not very knowledgabe (ie served the amuse-bouche with no explanation as to what it was - when asked just said 'I don't know', without even offering to find out from the chef) which is poor for a Michelin starred restaurant. Also wine a bit overpriced IMHO. Hotel was struggling to keep its head above water, but it was nowhere near as good as the other Michelin starred restaurant I have been to, despite being more expensive. Fantastic location however.

This thread reminds me that I really want to take a driving holiday up there and do all the places on "The Trip" with Steve Coogan/ Rob Brydon (most mentioned here).

Stayed at the Samling in November for the misses birthday, room good but meal in evening was just incredible, 2 hours of the very best food I have ever had and the staff are brilliant without a hint of snootiness

Have you tried http://www.hippinghall.com/ ?

Superb restaurant and the rooms are excellent too.

It's not quite the Lakes, but near as makes no difference.

I've done The Samling, Holbeck Ghyl and L'Enclume, if you fancy something a bit more relaxed you could always try www.eltermere.co.uk
