So, put a purchased reg on a car on 19 Jan 2012

Replacement tax disc and authority to make the plates arrived.

Car due for tax 29/12/12

Renewal arrived showing old reg and, therefore, no use

Rang DVLA helpline (help must mean something different in DVLA speak to the definition in my dictionary)....

You can tax it with the new V5.

I haven't got it yet.

You should have it

I haven't.

Well its on its way then.

What happens if it doesn't arrive?

You have to apply for a duplicate and pay the fee.

What about road tax in the meantime?

Tough titties (well not verbatim, but that sort of thing).

Thanks

click, brrrrr

Anyway, will I be able to tax the car with the V10 form at the post office? Or by some other route if the V5 doesn't show in time?

If you have not got the V5 it is the DVLA's problem.

Be a bureaucrat.

Start a formal complaint.

Write ALL the time by RECORDED delivery. Phones are useless.

You will get a new logbook free if you MAKE A FUSS.

I have done this several times. DVLA always cave in.

Good Luck

Has the DVLA been taking advice from the German transport ministry? Sounds just like their bucensoredit, but in English. Oh dear, where has my England gone? laugh

DVLA helpline = the line that is there to help DVLA. Seems perfectly clear to me.

The only bit of DVLA efficiency I ever got was from a DVLA local office.

Now they're closing them.

I must add that I have also endured the extremes of mentalism within their doors...smile

AH... DVLA Swansea - the South Wales Job Creation Scheme; hence why they are planning to close all the regional offices wink *cough* allegedly, not that I'm a cynic or anything frown .

I've had no problems with the DVLA offices in Madchester or Preston; it'll be a PITA to lose them - really! smile

OP, I'd suggest putting your underpants on your head, sticking pencils up your nose and saying "Wibble!" regularly. Then at least you'll be singing off the same hymnsheet as DVLA wink ...

I assume you mean 29/02/12.

Have you tried using the document reference number online to see if it actually tallys up to the new reg?
