VBH Wins in Maser

VBH on top of the podium in Trofeo Maserati

5th Gear presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson, together with co-driver and Autosport contributor Matthew Marsh won the third round of the Trofeo Maserati Vodafone at Silverstone on Sunday. VBH is the first-ever woman to score a victory for the Trident Marque.

Vicki blurted excitedly: "It’s probably one of the best days of my life – after all these years of competing it was amazing to win such a prestigious race, especially at Silverstone and on the day of the British Grand Prix. It doesn’t get much better than this!"

Butler-Henderson and Marsh were driving the Maserati Trofeo VIP car, sponsored by Italian fashion label Ermenegildo Zegna.

Back in the paddock, supermodel Jodie Kidd was on hand to congratulate Vicki and Matthew on their victory. Jodie is no stranger to the Maserati Trofeo racer herself, having driven the coupe as part of her training for an International racing licence. She has already completed 50 laps in the Trofeo at the Ferrari-owned Mugello race circuit in Italy, posting a very promising 2 min 20 sec time by the end of the session. Her aim is to compete in the Trofeo series within the next year.

Did VBH actually drive the car in the race? I got the impression that the race was stopped after the big crash, before she jumped in?

Dear old VBH getting a win. I was at the GP and saw the race, she had been in the car for 1 lap when there was a crash and the race was halted. The weird thing was her car was in 6th or 7th place before the pitstop, they pitted, she took over, the crash happened and then they were declared the winner! Go figure.

I was there watching it too, that's why I'm so surprised. Hadn't realised she managed to get behind the wheel just before the race was stopped. Like you say, that car was nowhere before the red flags appeared. Most odd.

They did win because of driver changes and the red flag, just being in the right place at the right time..

When she was told she'd won she said "won what?"

I didn't even need to know that about the race to smell a rat. Never been impressed by her driving. Less so now it's under the 5th gear umbrella. Id rather watch wife swap..

The support races at Grands Prix are rarely given much attention up in the Formula 1 Media Centres but at Silverstone on Sunday there was some excitement when Matthew Marsh, sometime Formula 1 Correspondent of the South China Morning Post, won the Trofeo Maserati race at Silverstone, sharing his car with feisty TV presenter Vicki Butler Henderson.

"My life's ambition has been to appear on Grandprix.com," said Marsh, "and there is no way that you can avoid putting up a story about me now."

The rather confused race came to an abrupt end after a large accident but Marsh and Butler-Henderson emerged from the carnage in the lead, having timed their compulsory pit stop brilliantly to coincide with the unexpected red flag. Butler Henderson was so surprised to discover that she had won the race that her first reaction to the news was "Won what?"

This did not stop the pair celebrating wildly on the podium nor Marsh having his life's ambition fulfilled.

How fickle these presenters are. I seem to rememeber VBH slating both the Maser 3200 and 4200 on 5th gear. Didnt stop her jumping in one for a race though did it. Although this one was slightly different, being race-prepped and all.
