The more I look at cars to buy the more I dislike Silver.

I started my car career with a dark red metallic. But didn't really care what the colour was.
Then I had a Silver, another Silver, joined by a red, both replaced with a Silver, which was joined by a Silver, which was replaced with a Silver (fern).

And now I'd actually pay extra to have a car that's any damned colour but silver but the market is flooded with the buggers.

Is it just me?

I guess I can see that on some car/colour combinations. E.g. I'd usually avoid white. But if I was looking at an Integra I'd be expecting it to be white.

But I'm not sure what car needs to be sliver in the same way.

You might think German marques. But all Mercs look better in a deep dark colour. BMWs seem to work also in Blues and Reds. Porsche red's been done but yellows/greens/anything but silver makes them look better.

Possibly the Merc/McLaren SLR. But it is a tad out of the price range for johnny normal. smile

I'll pay a little bit more to avoid silver/grey/white (and to a lesser extent black). Usually other colours are cheaper though, so it's a win-win situation if you can actually find one at all.

I've always thought silver is the 'no imagination' choice, however it looks like I might end up with a silver car through nothing other than it's the right car at the right time.

Depends on the car, the M6 looks great in Silver, where as the Passat looks awfully bland.

There are some colours that I would just avoid, though silver is not really one of them. Some cars suit silver, like the first generation Audi TT, I always thought that looked best in silver or black. I wouldn't actively seek silver out on most cars.

Colour is a factor in that there is no way I would want a pink car. Short of that though it is well down there on the list of things to look for with a new car.

That said there is no way I would have bought the 968 in any colour other than Speed Yellow - it just looks so 'right' on the CS.

I really don't like silver on the majority of cars or black for that matter

yes My attitude to silver/grey/white, the "non colours" if you like, is the same as your attitude to pink. I wouldn't pick pink given the choice, but if the right car turned up at the right price I'd happily drive it; I'd go out of my way to avoid silver/grey/white.

Unfortunately I have to discount a rather larger proportion of cars on the market for my preference than you do for yours. hehe

Got my VX220 in silver as it was the best deal I could get, but I did want to spray it after about 6months.

I wont be getting a silver car again unless its classic porsche/merc/audi or something that commands the colour scheme.

Depends on the car, and the silver. Some silvers are just plain bland and dull - then some silvers are bright and really suit the car.

I had a Silver CLK with black and red leather, that was lovely.

However when ordering the Fiesta, I had anything BUT silver - the Fiesta Silver just doesn't work with the chrome.

Silver would be my last choice of colour for most cars. It does nothing to accentuate the lines of the car.

it depends on the car for me, silver can suit a car very well.
