Gumball Rally 2012 Insurance

I am looking at doing the Gumball rally this year, its from New York to Los Angeles via Canada Vegas etc and am looking for help with regards to finding someone to insure a UK registered car in the US/Canada with specific cover for the 'Gumball Rally'

I took part in the European Rally last year and used the insurers recommended by Gumball but felt the cost to be way more than necessary for 8 days worth of cover!

Any help of advice would be much appreciated!

What is the Gumball Rally classified as – public road time-trial? Surely you just need motorsport policy that includes cover for US time-trials? Or do you specifically have to mention “Gumball Rally”?

A broker is probably your best bet if it’s requires a bespoke policy.

Believe it or not it is is specifically a non timed event, strictly no timing or racing is allowed!

Out of interest whats the car and what it the entry fees for it?

I cant help thinking I'd rather spend far less and do a trip with some like minded friends with far less police interest.

Out of interest what's your perception of it?..

I think I understand where you are coming from and before I did it last year I had concerns about it being a bit naf (I'm not much of an extrovert) but I genuinely had a blast.. Its mainly like minded car enthusiast that take part rather than hooray henry's (although there were a couple)

So in that case surely you just need insurance to drive your car on the public highway, in Canada and the US, for 8 days?

The fact you are doing "The Gumball" shouldn't even come in to the equation. Just check the policy exclusions.

This is what I thought last time (especially as it was in Europe) but The insurance needs to list specific cover for the 'Gumball Rally' or the organisers will not let you take part

Sounds like a bit of a scam to get you to use their preferred insurers. Phone some brokers and see what you come up with.

I agree and I have tried but UK insurers and brokers are not interested in covering for use in the US/Canada

Try some US brokers then? It must be do able. They've had previous gumballs across the US with plenty of Brit participation.

entry fees are extortionate (north of 20k)

I agree with doing a trip with like minded friends and in Europe that is relatively easy but it is a little more involved trying to plan a trip across the states in your own car

Really the Gumball rally. I used to love it but after that tt killed that man, it should have been finished. Also that other tt kim .com was a past baller.

If you are pompous, rich and selfish then it probably sounds like a good idea, but i can think of a million other drives that would provide more driving experiences than hookers, coke and lots of speeding.

It is amazing that it was set up to attract F" team investors and is still going, sort of sums up X-factor generation.

I had a client who needed cover for the European Gumball rally last year. It's tough to find any insurers who will do it and hugely expensive.

I think you'll need to use their recommended insurers or a US broker but it will not be cheap.

I guess my perception's defined entirely by what I see in the videos, media coverage and a small amount of exposure I've had, which I guess is dangerous in itself as I shouldn't be judging.
However, from what I've seen, it appears to be a bunch of people with significantly more wealth and testosterone than responsibility and/or ability.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for hooning my cars (in fact it's my favourite past time), but when I came to see the start of it a few years ago and then again experienced it in France first hand when I stumbled across it, they were driving like C**ts in busy traffic filled roads, overtaking on blind corners and generally creating a poor name for the English and Drivers of decent cars in general.
I think that was maybe the year or the year before someone got killed in one of the eastern European countries IIRC (?)
I'm sure it's fun, and hopefully the driving's been tamed down a bit, but it's not perhaps the image I'd like to portray for myself or nasty my cars with those stickers..
However, saying that, if it is more petrolhead than 'hooray henry' nowadays as you say, then a chance to blast across America where loud stickered up cars are more the norm, party with rooms full of hot chicks and generally have a laugh with other petrolheaded blokes, then ths is not the worse way you could spend a week
