I know I know, chav respray etc. However it is for the track car that currently looks like a faded bathroom suite and I wondered if it might be a less expensive alternative to a full respray, especially as bits will inevitably get knocked. I'm thinking original colour rather than having the whole thing chromed for example. Interested to know if anyone else has considered this?

Great Topic -

My wedge seriously needs a respray so the cost of that ( want one like PWD95 ) compared to a wrap every couple of years would be interesting

Also do you need to tell teh insurance each time you wrap it ??

HMMMMM

What about just wrapping the bonnet with a big Union Jack? This would look great on red or white cars (probably blue too)

The more I think of it, the more it seems like a good idea. It's not like the shape is very complicated! Couple of flat slabs ought to do it. I see plenty of wrapped Gallardos and the shape is not ***that*** different...

Go for Chrome wrap,it'll blind the opposition then you'll win!
Seriously don't you think it would start to look tatty in a very short time especially when getting knocks. Although I've seen it done on wheeler dealers and thought it different I can't feel its as good as paint.

Thought about this as well, i'm sure i was quoted between £1700 - £2000 on a normal colour full wrap cant remember who from [been a while] and a cheap re-spray would cost about £2000? and a good one £3000. Difference in wrapping is the cars done in two days.
Would you believe i've even seen a tartan wrap for us boy's up here [not in your face tartan either].lol.

Ive got some left over christmas wrapping paper if you are interested?...hehe

Car Wraps...scratchchin..Personally i think its a really cool idea,Especially if your car has carappy paintwork..It can be a lot cheaper than a paint job and you could change it whenever you get bored of it..Or want something better..Im actually thinking about it myself as ive had quotes for a paint job that go up to £4K..Im sure you could get a wrap for a third of the price and there are all sorts of weird and wonderful designs that would be hard to create with paint and very expensive..Id say go for it..Ziga

I did a DIY front end wrap on my Racer for the similar reasons to you.
I would not do a chrome, as you will not be allowed on a track with a chrome wrap.

The DIY front end on the Racer took about 5 hours, and £50 worth of wrap that was on a roll so had to do it in strips. it's lasted quite well, I've had to patch it up a few time when I've had knocks.

I saw a Chromed Merc SL that looked cool - hence the thought about doing the same to my Wedge!!

That looks superb! Wondering if I should be more adventurous than sticking with the current colour. The chessboard really suits the car. My wedge is going down to Dave Batty to have the suspension rebuilt plus a load of other work next week and when it's back I am planning a trip to the wrappers....

This has been buzzing around my brain now since it was mentioned and i think its the way to go..I enquired at a car paint shop as regards to a red pearlescent almost toffee apple burnt on look and was told that the paint alone would cost £900 per ltr and i would need 4-5 litres and then there is the cost of the work...Totalling around 5-6K..eek..And vehicle wraps start from £999-£2500 so the price speaks for itself..This is a route i will definitely take maybe next year..Cheers..Ziga

Not yet mate..But i will...
Update:
Just did..Cool..I think i will definitely go for it ..Im wondering if they will need to remove the light pods?..I should imagine they will...Its also interesting that you dont have to inform DVLA as its a temporary colour change..(As asked)..Not sure if that applies to the insurers though...Might be worth checking...Cheers..Ziga
