Hi all.

As above, how are you feeling at the moment re fuel costs.
Any Diesel haters thinking of changing to satans fuel??

I drive 25k a year in a 46-50mpg on a journey car ,but boy I miss the noise of a decent Petrol.

25k at 43 MPG Derv = £3721
25k at 30 MPG petrol = £5031

Difference - £1310, or £2600 ish of your salary. Worth every penny!
(for the record, I expect to spend £5720 on super this year, I'd love to claim to be loaded and not mind, but after 11 years in a 2l derv, I just NEEDED a V8 =)

On average yes, since switching to a private car 4/5 months ago I've done over 17,000 miles.
But I have a fuel card.
I am considering switching back to petrol though as I think if I carry on at this rate the depreciation will be substantial.

I used to do 20k pa in an e39 530i. Lovely way to travel and better mpg than you would expect.

Hi, do 20k+ a year in the Boxster. All on Super! Never think about changing to the oily stuff.

20K+ a year for me too. Split between a Chimaera and an MR2 Roadster, the Toyota being my 70 miles/day commuting car. I ran the TVR as my only car for a while, with an S2000 before that. Yes, the fuel costs are mental, but I can't bring myself to have a boring car even to commute in.

I did try once, and ran a Toyota Carina as a daily, but it drove me nuts after just a few weeks and was chopped-in for a Mk2 Golf GTI.

At one point I seriously considered an RX8 for the 70 mile commute after banging my head against something hard!

My last 3 company cars have all been petrol, and I cover at least 35,000 miles a year. This year I'm on track to do around 45,000.

I just hate the way diesels deliver their power and the noise they make. It would have felt wrong ordering a Scirocco or RCZ in diesel, I know they're not the last word in style or anything, but a diesel coupe? Come on...

Financially, it doesn't make much sense. But it's a lot more fun on my annual Ring trip biggrin

I've done 21,000 miles in the RS6 (C6) over the last year. No idea how much I've spent in petrol, but add that figure to another 10,000 miles combined across the integrale and Cobra.
I daren't even look yikes

Do 20k+ in my Z4MC, and did similar mileages in both of my e34 M5s before the Z4.

'Can' get 30+ on a boring motorway run if I stick to the limit for long stretches, but I prefer losing 5mpg and having a bit more fun. Overall average is 26mpg over about 50,000 miles (including track days, Welsh hoons, and 'Ring trips).

I applaud your commitment, sir.

Not quite 20k, but managing 15k in the MX-5.

The last year or so my company mileage has increased to around 35 - 40k so my 2.4 petrol V70 has to go, just purchased a 330d touring, so far it's great and I'm very happy with the change.

Yeah... 22'000 last year in my Polo. Averaging roughly 30mpg... I think you'd have to be doing 20K+ to justify a diesel.

I read somewhere that the figure was 18k + per annum to justify a diesel.

I do 55k a year in my lovely petrol-powered Mercedes SL500, 500 SEC and 320 TE. Money well spent, I'd say. All of my cars are paid for and have long since stopped depreciating. Changing to a diesel would mean throwing money away.

I'm sure it would vary between different makes/models etc. I find most of our customers come in looking for a diesel as they have in their head it will be cheaper to run - oblivious to the fact they cost more to buy and maintain (Ford, anyway). It would be interesting to find out an exact difference as to the cost of running derv/unleaded in the same spec vehicle.

I used to do 25k a year in an Impreza Turbo. Lossiemouth to Glasgow every weekend, about 500 miles a week. It was great fun and the only car I've owned that could safely pass the Asda lorries on the A9!! I was averaging about 20mpg. Worth every penny.
