Protein Shakes
Discussion
If you aren't getting what you need with regards to protein, carbs etc then yes.
They make an easy way to get extra protein into you, which many people struggle with.
If you are very active through work, you will probably be burning up everything you eat so require more (if that makes sense, tried to explain it simply).

Protein shake = low carb food. Weight gainer = high carb food. It's like adding an axtra (small) meal so it might help you put weight on. It doesn't give you muscles, you have to workout for that.
Not sure what Hilts is quite getting at, but just to be clear creatine will not help you put on weight, but it is safe to take - unlike steroids.
P.s. Have a search for the other protein shake thread, plenty of info on there.

This might be a completely stupid question but..
.. I'm a small built lad and I work down a waste refuse yard, I'm pulling out wood, metal etc all day long so my jobs fairly physical. Would taking some sort of weight gain/protein shake help me bulk up a bit?

You're not training muscle to failure are you? Otherwise you'd be dropping stuff on your feet at the yard.If you want to bulk up start training with that goal in mind.
If you start on pp now you'll just get a belly.
