ML270 CDI- Any buying tips?

Hi chaps,

Plenty of ML diesels about at the moment that look good value.

Driven a few, and the missus is suitably happy. (it'll be her car mainly)

Looking at 2006/7/8 years (£16k - £25k)

i have been amazed at how well they all drive with 40 - 60k miles on them. Like new.

Mainly concerned about the engine and auotbox. All have been as smooth as silk! i know to look for coking injectors, but i've been seriously impressed.

I read a few other forums and the word bulletproof has been used and mileages upto 200k!

What do i need to watch out for? And is it worth remapping?

Any advice gratefully received, many thanks in advance

Yes all good, apart from those injector seals .
Ran a 53 reg from new up to 170k miles, when it went still felt a good tight rattle free car, paint looked nice, seats wore well and looked nearly good as new. Only expenditure was a new injector, heated seat element and gearbox wiring loom plug/seal (drips of oil on floor from under the gearbox, £25 15 minutes to fit )
The ride can be a bit harsh with a light load, 26 mpg. Build quality of the two later face lifted models was superior to the early version.

That's in line with everything else i heard.

I've now bought one - A 2006 ML280 with 53k on the clock.

Or as it appears to be better known - "Nearly run in ".

Ah, mine was the version one with the straight 5 cylinder, you must have meant the second generation with the V6, even nicer
