Hi folks

In the past I have always used AA 5 Star for the above with repair, car hire, repatriation etc and on the only occasion I needed to use them they were great - did what it said on the tin, so to speak.

Is this still the way to go or are there other outfits out there who are 1) better or as good 2) cheaper?

Any first hand xperiences would be welcome

Cheers smile

PS We will be going down through France and coming back up through the Grande Alpes and may 'toe dip' into N Italy and Switzerland en route

What is the car and how old is it, plus who do you insure with and is it a classic policy? This will help answering your question.

AA European assistance is provided by ADAC. Contact them directly:

I'll be interested in the responses too because my extended warranty which came with manufacturer's European wide breakdown cover has expired, and I travel to France 3-4 times a year at least. My research so far indicates that many companies do not automatically cover using the car abroad and if the car is over 10 years old cover may be difficult to get anyway. I think AA is one company that apply the 10 years rule.

£59 from http://www.quotelinedirect.co.uk/breakdown/

Not had to call them out yet, but now use the above policy for both my UK and European coverage.

Another recommendation for Quotelinedirect here. I did have to call them out once, in rural France on an Easter Sunday. Prompt service and no hassles with the resulting claim. The only reason I'm not with them now is the age of the car (they have a 20 year cut off)
