Has anyone heard of this process before? Basically they use frozen C02 to remove dirt from your car. Apparently this is available in US and also in Germany through OPCs.

But isn't CO2 the gas that is the arch nemesis of the green activists??? So how can using it be classed as "green"?

There is an industrial version of this process that uses solid nitrogen pellets, i have seen it used to clean metal before welding, it is slightly different in that it has the capability to fire the pellets at the surface not just the gas, so can be abrasive as well, it's also over 100 C cooler (-215 C) it has proved to be a very effective and green process that is much faster than other cleaning methods although the nitrogen requires specialist handling and the equipment is not cheap to buy.

So it cleans your car and offends the Green Movement, what's not to like?

Dont confuse the two!

what your describing is "ice blasting" which can be used as an alternative to shot or grit blasting, but i certainly wouldnt recommend it on your car - could leave it very very clean, albeit without any paint!

the other process is a gas applied process, but again, its a cryo process and creates an extreme cold through the gas being de-pressurised i.e. -100, so again this can cause cracking to paintwork, and if there are any chips can lift laquer coats if its not applied carefully - but if it is used properly it will clean very well

big big problem with this process is however the amount of inert gas used, and if its not in a very well ventilated area this can lead to apshysixation very quickly - so if you are getting it done, make sure its got plenty of air movement!

another problem is that it will leave the car totally un-waxed and with little protection which at this time of year with all the salt could prove damaging

make sure you see it in action before you go ahead !
