Always call your insurance co. when you get renewal.

Got my renewal through today, looked a bit dear but was roughly what I paid last year, so hey ho. Tried the Meerkats but most others about the same.
Thought I'd try a call anyway, 10 mins later, £40 off.
It's sort of gratifying but sort of annoying that they try it on if they could do it cheaper.
Anyway, my advice, even if your renewal looks competitive, give them a call.

Got my renewal last year and it was £440 with £350 excess, up from £330 with £350 ex from the previous year.
Tried the various sites and found a quote for £330 with £250 excess for all mods declared same cover.
Called my insurance company and they said they were part of the same group and would match the quote.
£110 saved for a quick check on the net.

Best one so far is Confused giving a lower quote with the Elephant branch of the Admiral Group than going direct would - but the interesting part is that direct, Admiral were cheaper than Elephant, but none cheaper than the Confused quote!
Renewals do, I'm quite sure, habitually have a bit added. Think of it as an idiot/lazy tax.
In fact, I've just remembered a post-accident renewal from Elephant - £3800 or thereabouts. Fresh quote on the phone with Admiral, despite them being exactly the same company, £1200. Job done

Lucky you, I phoned up my previous insurer when I got my renewal through and had shopped around online, to ask if they would match a quote I'd received which was slightly lower - there was only about £30 in it.Thought I'd try a call anyway, 10 mins later, £40 off.

"I'm sorry sir, we don't negotiate on price."
"Ok then. Byeeeeee......"
Baffling. Maybe they needed the extra money to pay Michael Winner.
My last renewal came through and was over double what I had been paying for they year just ending.
I ran a few quotes online and found quotes much more in line with what I was expecting.
I phone my current company to see if they could do better on the renewal and nope. Wouldn't budge even £1.
Told them where to stick it and went with the cheapest on Gocompare.
