Well tom Feb 23rd night road trips start to the island of Crete, Greece for the summer.

I will leave tom night to Germany to catch a car train with the chim, then it will transport me over the Alps to Italy. Even I will not chance the Alps with the chim, OK I have done it on my motor bike in the winter and that was very interesting.

Once in Italy I will work my way down to Ancona, by then I hope I have left the cold weather behind. Ferry over to Greece Patras then drive down to Pireaus Athens avoiding centre of Athens ( don't fancy meeting some un friendly Greeks rioting........just joking) its not that bad just good filming on TV.

Then it will be time to take ferry to Souda Chania Crete arriving next tuesday at 0500.

So I will get off the boat first job remove roof and then drive to my house and enjoy first smell of spring.

Then back to work on Wednesday.

Well lets see if this plan comes off its all down to the Chim :-)

Good luck Paulskel.

You shouldn't worry about reliability or cooling if everything is in good nick.

I did the 3000 mile round trip to Malaga and back in 10 days in July 2010. We saw cabin temps of 40deg plus and that was with the roof off the entire journey.
We didn't have a single problem.

She will be fine. Enjoy the trip but don't whatever you do miss an opportunity to fill up when you can.

Oh, and take lots of pictures biggrinthumbup

Well so far so good, sat in Hamburg and yes of course its pissing down with rain. Have to hang around now until about 1730 when I will catch the motor rail train to Bolzano. It will take until about 1400 tomorrow and then its a drive about 500 km to Ancona. Still a little nervous about the rain and my air filter, I hope this is no problem, many people say that it will not be a problem with the rain and spray. . . I hope they were right.

Good luck wish I was doing it.

Rain won't be a problem, I've driven in some pretty hairy stuff that was bouncing back off the road higher than the roof - no problem.

It's standing deep water you need to worry about, but even so, it still needs to be pretty deep!

Update,

Well what a trip I will post some pics when get to computer now writing on my phone.

Left Hamburg with the train what a job to load the chimaera, it delayed the train by about 20 mins, that really screwed with the German train on time performance. ;-) Arrived in Bolzano in beautiful sunshine. Then the fun started. Got on the Italian freeway to drive down to Ancona and she purrred never missed a beat.

Only problem is every Italian wants to know what car it is, so they pull upto the back end of car as if they want to join you inside for a chat. Need a big sign telling everyone from a distance what car it is. Arrived in Ancona after putting 100 euro s of fuel in(ok I was driving anywhere from 80-100mph and sometimes when I had a few idiots to close a little faster). Booked in a nice hotel above ancona a definite scene out of a James Bond movie.

Some good food a little wine and a good sleep.

Next morning drove down to port in ancona and checked in, came back to car and had about 10 people looking around her.
Definitely a crowd pleaser.

Got on ferry 24 hrs later I arrived in Patra and started my drive down to athens. My fears started to come alive as it rained cats and dogs and road is so bad you think you are driving in a third world country, but you still pay a toll for the pleasure.

Once again she did not miss a beat. So stayed last night in Athens (no riots) ferry not sailing to Crete due to bad weather. Hopefully will sail to day. So far so good she lived upto what I expected and more.
