Not a week goes past without some thread being started by some one who hates a certain kind of car, decides that some kind of car is pointless, or hate a certain type of fuel, or hate electric cars, or hate modified cars or hate cyclists, hate truck drivers or something else.

So as a true petrol head is there something you must hate

Hate is a very strong word to use. I am not going to declare a holy war on Peugeot because they haven't made anything I would consider driving for the best part of a decade.

As emotions go hate is probably the least attractive and most destructive.

I don't hate any make or model of car, though at times have hated particular cars when they have let me down, but then the same applies to people mad

Am I a true petrolhead though ?

No idea, I don't know what defines a true petrolhead.

It would certainly appear that way from the majority of posts on the site.............if you run out of topics you can always hate another poster and his opinion.

Excellent point. In a desperate attempt to win the "most PH" member race, all too many take on some sort of die hard purist persona.

The funny thing is, they don't realise how daft they make themselves look.

Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

Hate's a bit strong but as a petrolhead I have strong feelings about certain things

- height is not a good thing in my book. Cars are meant to go round corners not fall over.
- will always prefer petrol to diesel.
- will always prefer silver wheels good to black wheels ones
- shiny paint good/matt wraps bad

etc

I'm exactly like this. The only time I don't think like this is when riding pillion on a motorbike, but that's because I don't like having a passenger on a motorbike.

There's nothing I dislike so much to rant about. I even like some Golfs and Audis...

Although I think some cars are pointless and don't bring anything new to the markt place, and it could be said that I also hate some cars (or at least how these cars are used by the general public, e.g. Chelsea Tractors), I think it's a bit much to say that one has to hate to be a petrolhead.

Not even just cars, i love driving everything, cars, vans, trucks, tractors, forklifts, quads.

I have - after a few beers!

It's just internet-exaggeration. People use the word "hate" when they mean "mildly dislike". Of course, it means those who truly hate something get lost in the noise too.

Genuine hate is a very strong expression and suggests some sort of heightened emotional response that I would hope only occurs in matters of real importance.

There are many things on PH that I 'dislike', including certain vehicles and user attitudes, but true hate never comes into it for me.

No - I think it's inevitable that you'll be frustrated and/or disappointed by some cars, but I couldn't imagine actually hating a car as such. I do intensely dislike certain trends in the automotive industry and in the attitudes of other road users, but that's not the same thing.

It's nothing to do with petrolheads.

Hate is something that a lot of people (often either a bit dim or socially awkward) think is cool to do on the internet. The kind of attitude that was once confined to 4chan, single make forums and 1337 communities has now spread to the rest of the internet.

It's more a slightly less obvious form of trolling than something they mean.

Hate is the wrong word to use - but passionate people tend to have strong opinions (or stances) on things, but if you don't have any passion - how can you claim to be a "petrolhead"? wink

I hate ignorant drivers, especially those who cruise in the outside lane, knowingly, ignorant. Hate it. I mean really really hate it. I need to get over this. Probably should seek some sort of help. I usually tend to hate the car they are in too.

I wouldn't say that I hate any cars, and I really don't understand people who do, especially when these people have no experience of them whatsoever and jump on the bandwagon to be with the "in" crowd.

If we all hated things we have never tried, we would miss out on so much. Some examples:

All the people on here who moan and groan about Audis, especially S Line ones for being uncomfortable. Most of them have probably never even been in one.

Some of my friends who discount a Volvo T5 as being crap "because it is a Volvo".

All the people on here who hate Vauxhall - "worst brand ever, would not buy anything made by them even with a gun to my head".

Ignorance is bliss, and all that rolleyes
