Morning all

I wish to put a smaller rear numberplate onto my 997 but it looks like the old number plate has been screwed directly into the bumper, which means I will have two holes (where the older larger plate was) either side of the new smaller plate.

My question is has anyone here got around this problem already and if so, what did you do?

Cheers

Best to just put a 'legal' sized number plate back on.

Failing that you will have to find some kind of blank to cover up the holes, or get a bodyshop to fill the holes and repaint the affected area.

I'd just go with option 1!

Assuming a plastic bumper, companies like ChipsAway may be able to help....

What makes it illegal?

The number plate is 'legal' in the sense that the characters and spacing is correct and it's the standard height of 4.5" but it's 16" wide as opposed to 20.5" wide as it looks nicer to me.

I'm thinking I may have to just go with the 20.5" wide plate in the original screw holes rather than getting the holes filled and painted. frown

Why dont OPC's just use double sided sticky pads instead of screws! mad

There's no legal requirement to have a standard sized plated provided the letters font and spacing are correct.

I used to have very short plates but decided they do look a bit too attention grabbing coupled with the 3 characters and being on a Porsche.

To stop people nicking plates - or at least slowing them down.

Thieves will pinch plates in supermarket carparks that not screwed and stick 'em on their motor to fill up with fuel before driving off without paying.

There's a company in America called Bumper Plugs or something and they'll supply you a pair to plug the holes in the correct Porsche colour.
Probably about £50.

Even worse in France guys they pop rivet the bu99ers on !!
You can imagine my joy when picking up my first new Porsche having bought a little plate to go on it :-(

You maybe able just get away with making the plate just wide enough to cover the holes, I was lucky in that they didnt use the very end of the plate to fix them
