So this morning I managed to drop a 5kg marble chopping board onto my foot from about waist height.

Needless to say it hurts like fk and I'm pretty sure that I've broken by big toe and the one next to it.

I've necked a couple of Co-Codamol and driven to work (I knew left foot breaking would evantually come in handy) but it still hurts like buggery and I'm walking around like Herr Flick of the Gestapo after a particularly vigorous bumming.

Should I bother with A&E or will they make me wait 5 hours and tell me that there is nothing they can really do?

You might get a free pair of crutches. I broke some toes as a kid and my foot was put in a cast to take the pressure off the toes when moving around and allow them to heal.

A&E. Don't get much when you break a finger so no point, but as said by previous poster I'd go with toes. They're a bit crucial to walking as you've found out.

I stubbed my little toe (good and proper!) about 18 months ago and eventually went to the GP and got the 'nothing we can do with it'.

Now I'm due to have it and the end of my metatarsal amputated...

Evidently continued inflamation due to the slow healing of the original break has caused the bone to erode...

Which is nice.

So get it checked out and keep going back if it doesn't sort itself pretty rapidly.

Little toes, meh as long as they're pointing the right way there doesn't seem much point. Big toes on the other hand are very important for walking and balance. I'd get it checked.

The big and little toe are important for balance - they're the bits that signal if you're toppling over one way or the other.

Go to A&E and hope you don't get someone unsympathetic. I did, and was basically told to bugg3r off. Thankfully, after about six weeks everything seemed OK, but you'd be pretty peed off if, as above, it develops into something worse.

A&E will X-ray your big toe if they are concerned about the bones but will not normally X-ray the other toes unless there is a deformity.

You are probably best getting it looked at but might be seen quicker in a minor injury unit or walk in centre. Be aware though that some have limited access to X-ray.

Broke two toes playing football - index toe and middle one - a&e told me to bugger off and not play football for a while.

Broke a toe a couple of years ago and didn't bother with doctors, don't think there's anything they can do. Took months to get back to normal though.

My dad broke his little toe playing Rugby when he was 18 and it sort of stayed broken eek

He didn't do anything about it for 30 years until it went manky and they chopped it off for him yikes
