I heard a silver 991 practising launch control, on a road in Notts some time ago.
Heard about that. Apparently the driver was trying to escape the amorous advances of a diminutive coiffeur in a Boxster Spyder. Talking of which, have you seen or heard from Lofthouse recently? I dropped him a line earlier and got "Out-Of-Salon-Auto-Reply: I will be away from the salon until Friday 2nd March due to an unforeseen shortage of styling fudge".

Last seen test driving a TTRS, I believe.
You do know he sold the Spyder......?

You still got your Spyder? Leigh was saying you bought yours because he had one and you've got a sort of man crush going on. I said you probably just liked the cars, but he was insistent. All I'm saying is make your own decisions, yeah?
I bought mine first.However, I'm about to order a 991 because you've bought one.
I also have a photo of you on my dressing table next to my hair straighteners.
But yeah, I make all my own decisions, Paul.

I had a poke around one the other day and thought it was a fantastic looking car. Really impressed.
My only 2 criticisms were:
The interior was a really nice place to be and from the outside was great - loads of good angles!
This evolution rather than revolution mantra seems to really pay off
My only 2 criticisms were:
- the sunroof when open is fine from the inside but looks rather bad from the outside - almost like a 'yoot' wearing a baseball cap backwards
- what's the point in the engine bay hatch - might as well not bother!!

I've just spotted my first 991 Carrera S (basalt black) in the metal going through Godalming,Surrey.
It looked stunning, the press pictures really don't do it justice.
Has anyone else spotted one? What are your thoughts? better in the metal?
I saw my first one the other day parked up at opc swindon ....It looked stunning, the press pictures really don't do it justice.

Walked right past it to test drive a stradale though in the next garage along

I had some warranty work done yesterday and was given a brand new red 991C2S PDK for the day - here's the keys, go and enjoy yourself all day, mileage no issue (mistake number one from the OPC
)
My impressions re as follows:
Looks bigger on the outside than my C2S but I understand in reality there's little in it and it's just the lines that give that impression. It did however feel bigger inside and whilst I quite like the Panamera dash, some of the switchgear is hidden by the gear lever (why that's still there on an auto is anybody's guess) and it doesn't feel 'comfortable'. Clearly the level of equipment is light years ahead of my 7.1 and for example I liked the way once my iPhone was connected by Bluetooth I could play songs without a physical connection whilst at the same time the phone connection worked well, I had a 90 minute call without a drop which is unique! Something I'd love on my crappy old PCM 2!
The noise from a standard exhaust is nice and much better than my standard 997. With the roof open you really hear the blips as the engine changes down which I like (does a 997 PDK do the same?), it did however make me play with the gears so I could hear it as much as possible so MPG may be lower than expected
I understand PSE gives pops and crackles as you go down gears which the standard exhaust doesn't so PSE is a box ticked if I ever get chance. The general net of the DFI engine is much, much better than my car and clearly was quite loud judging by people turning to have a glance whilst driving through various towns.
I can't find fault with the steering, I really didn't notice it to be honest as I was too busy enjoying myself driving all over West Sussex. I'm sure JC and his crowd will be able to feel the difference but I sure couldn't and the car did what I wanted all the time and I didn't feel as if I were detached from the experience. It was sure footed and I didn't have the same level of expectancy of meeting a hedge I always have in my C2S!
I like the exterior and regardless of journalists suggesting it's too similar to previous cars, it is what it is and it has the heritage it has and if the shape and overall design changed it wouldn't be a 911.
However, is it worth £60,000 more than my 997? No. Not even in my wildest dreams, not in a million years. The car I had was almost £100,000 and that's a huge amount of money. Sure you get a better dash with more gizmos, a touch bluetooth whatsit, but I got back in my 997 and thought it was a good place to be in (possibly better if it were a 7.2 PDK?) and I really didn't feel like the poor relation.
So Mid Sussex, thanks very much for the loan of your car for the day it was great fun and worth every penny of petrol I used, but I'm not going to be placing a deposit just at the moment as I haven't won the lottery or gone barking mad.
The fact I don't actually do the lottery means you'll actually have to wait until great uncle Richard Rich pops his clogs and I have more money than sense which isn't going to happen either as I was born into poverty and I haven't found my rich uncle yet
A great car and Porsche have obviously done their homework but I'm not sure if it's pitching a bit above its league in the price bracket it's now in?
