I am a 17 year old male who is looking to buy a golf GTD but have been quoted an insane amount for insurance (not that I thought it would have been cheap) but I was just wondering if anybody knows who does cheap car insurance for new drivers.

Don't think there is such a thing as 'cheap insurance' especially for new drivers.
Just have to bite the bullet, lube up and bend over like everyone else at 17 sadly frown

How much are you being quoted? Anything less than £2000 should be considered a good deal, unfortunately.

Golf GTD - do you mean the mk2 variant or the later Mk4 PD 110/130/150 GTTDI variants?

Rather strangely GTDs are expensive to insure. Quite recently i ran a few quotes to see what the difference would be if i swapped my GTI for a GTD and found the cost was nearly £200 MORE on the diesel 110hp vs my 150hp petrol.

fk me, you're 17 and have £16,000 to spend on a car??

I'm only 2 years older, have a car worth less than 10% of that and am £400 into my student everdraft! hehe

You wont get insurance for it, sorry to say but your too young and the car is valued too much.

If your parents bought you it, then they should have considered the insurance side before buying it.
If you did, then you should have got quotes before buying it.

Or your like the 19 year old with the R8...

Try something older and cheaper with a low insurance group.

exactly biggrin

first car should always be relatively cheap as will be worked hard and scraped to bits so buying a brand new car is unwise. A cheap car also helps lower insurance

Not a bad quote, so they think you'll write off the value of it within two years... They are probably right, sell it and get a bucket for the first year or two as it'll save you £7000 a year.
