What else is there apart from a 3 series or CLK?

Really fancy a Boxster, but need to consider my kids I suppose

I can't believe I'm going to go all 300bhp/ton on you (no offence 300!) but what about a Ford Mustang?!

Volvo C70. Its a decent looking car, it will not break and with children you need something around you. Convertibles are generally inherently much weaker cars. Not with Volvo they ain't.

Magnificent cars IMO. Grace, Space and Pace to abuse an old Jag Advert.

S4's are good value, £10k buys a decent one. BMW 645 at £10k is bottom of the barrel money.

Quattro means its very useable all year round too.

Most of these will have changed hands many times. If you can find a low owner with proper history you will most likely be on to good one, but you need to be less fussy about colour and spec if you want to be fussy about owners, history and condition.

Living up to his name as usual....

How about

E46 M3
SL500

If you can handle the slightly "off" image (meaningless) then the M3 is the best car here IMO. The one above looks mint. Good colour combination, unmolested and excellent mileage for the year. It's where my money would go. S4 is a nice car but a bit dull in comparison.
