Does anyone on here sing?

Right, no laughing at the back. I have got together with a few work colleagues to play ukes together every week. Absolutely not serious and we are just having a bit of fun but I seem to be doing all the singing and I am really not good. I have a couple of problems to start with (there are many more but I'll go easy on you! 
). 1. I take ages to figure out the right note to start on and 2. I can hear myself sing the wrong notes and I start laughing. 
Any folk out there who have warbled have any tips to solve these or any other problems I could have (I am not very loud either, which seems to be a good thing!)
Suggestions gratefully received. Piss taking obligatory!

I used to sing. No, seriously.
A couple of pointers for starters.
Stick a finger in one ear when you're singing (not in an actual performance though, you'll look like a spacker). You can hear yourself better rather than whomever is belting out a line next to you.
A pitch-pipe is useful for finding the right note. Learn how to use it.
Don't forget to warm up your voice before trying to sing like Adams or Streisand.

when you say playing ukes, I assume you mean ukele. If so then you can practice your pitch by just singing along with basic scales while playing them.
Another way is just to practice sing along with a song you know, and then pause it and carry on singing to help tune your pitch.
Reading up about proper breathing will help strengthen your voice and projection techniques. Singing lessons mau be a good idea if you want o really get better...

Hmmm... better than my singing then... It is utterly verboten in this house for me to sing... ever. (Breaks my heart though as it's something I've always wanted to be able do.)
Practice, practice, practice and make sure you only sing stuff you really like. Only do it when you enjoy doing it or it can be demoralising.
Also, do warm up, even if it's just a bit of singing in the car on the way and don't attempt to sing for the first hour or so when you wake up in the mornings.

Allegedly I'm very good at singing the theme tune to Emmerdale (farm), well I am from Yorkshire after all.It goes a bit like this.
